Lou's GTi took a hell of a beating, but when it broke, it was all at once. Not one at a time, a laundry list of failure.
With Travis' Jetta, he backed into a parking spot, heard a weird clunk from up front, didn't think anything of it. Took off, went to back into his driveway and reverse was conspicuously missing. Apparently it's a common event with the Jetta manual transmissions.

My wife has a 2003 Beetle. It had the same battery until last New Year's Eve, and has never spent a day in the shop, except for tires. 130k miles.

I had to change my original alternator on my '99 Beetle at 647,000 km this summer. I guess it was allowed to fail.

my 98 Cavalier had the same battery in it until the day I traded it in June 2005. Come to think of it, the 1998 Lumina I had had an original Delco battery in it.

We replaced the batteries in her car and my Jeep the same day. Those were some expensive batteries.
