2008 ford escape electric power steering sensor
< on 11/5/2013 3:44 PM >

Hey guys, just curious. My power steering suddenly went on me while driving. I took it into ford and got quoted $1500 for parts and labour.

This is a serious safety issue. Is there anything I can do to get some money back? This seems to be a common problem with 2008 escapes. Tons of complaints and reports.

Can I help get this pushed to a recall and get reimbursed?

I had a 99 Windstar that had hundreds of complaints about the transmission dying at 75k miles. I pointed this out to my Ford dealer when mine died, and he basically told me to fuck off. You could try, but don't get your hopes up. Being only 5 years old, though, isn't it still under warranty?

Another tactic you might want to try is telling them that you narrowly avoided a crash when the sensor went out, and that you've talked to a lawyer. That might scare them into maybe eating the labor cost at least.

I'm second owner. I got the car last year. Isn't under any warranty and is quite high in the milage since I drive it long distances regularly. its about to roll 200,000. I managed to sweet talk them into lowering the labour. Possibly more.

It still stings hard though since I'm about to leave work at the end of this month, move up north and start school full time.

Fact: Your car will break at the most inopportune time. Likely when you also have no income, or just spent a large sum of money on something.

Just drive it without power steering. Unless you want to sink a lot of cash into something that honestly you could replace for $3000.

^This.
Works, believe me. Tell you a story about a 2002 Buick Century this woman had... it was pretty rusty, but she was driving along (this would be 2009 or so) NY Route 73 at about 60mph and the airbag deployed... wow! BANG! Hello airbag! No warning, just POW! So, the dealer basically says, 'lady, it's 7 years old. it's rusted to fuck (she lived out near Lake Placid, cars don't last long there), what did you expect?'

Well, our intrepid old bat contacts GM with her family counselor on the phone... think of it as the WWF of conference calls. Three days later, that rusted to shit Buick is rolling into the shop to have the airbags and windshield replaced at no charge.

never underestimate the power of an attorney or bad press.

Cleveland has a bunch of salt mines under Lake Erie, so every city in the area gets salt really cheap, and salts the holy hell out of their roads in the winter. You see it piled up at intersections. It dissolves everything: roads, cars, you name it.

BTW, the "talking to a lawyer" thing doesn't have to be that you consulted a lawyer on this issue. You could talk to one at a bar, or at a party, or wherever. You could even talk about the Maple Leafs. Just don't say what you talked about, and you're telling the truth.

Ended up just nutting up and paying for it. Came out to $1740. Feels much better then before. I contacted ford canada about my concerns and they seemed mildly interested. Ohwell. And now to replace my Stabilizer links.

It never ends.

I have a hangup with that, It's an Escape limited, v6 with all the bells and whistles. Every luxury available in '08 it has. And because of the milage I put on it, it isn't worth more then 2k at a dealer and about 8k private sale.

I'll never get anything as nice as it for the price I can trade in or sell for.

I wanted an import. But had this bought for me. So I really can't complain.
