Ok So after blowing up my Mazda speed, and buying a 600 dollar Volvo wagon, having it for about two week a Tree branch decided to exit its lovely home in its tree and fall on my hood/roof/fender. since I have comp. insurance with a small deductible I decided to file a claim to have the damage repaired. So the estimator came out an decided it would cost 2,100 to repair but unfortunately the car Only Blue booked for 1800. So long story short they totaled it but I get to keep it for a whopping 160 dollars. I gave the car to my brother and hes going to go through with getting a reconstructed title for it, so I drove down to Philly yesterday after seeing the car on craigslist and bought this beast.... 96 outback, one owner, 5 speed, 2.2l 80K miles. he was asking 1500 i ended up getting it for 1,200. To be honest i was quite scared to drive it home due to it having NO exhaust, nothing behind the cat... an a CRAZY bad brake pulse (actually thought the front end was going to fall off braking on the highway) but got it to my shop yesterday evening. replaced the front and rear brakes and rotors, front axles, front lower ball joints, changing the oil, some wiper blades, and fixing the sloppy ass shifter (no bushings, all fell out) i got a very nice driving car. My buddy is going to install a custom bent exhaust with a nice muffler for a case of beer. Had some nice 16inch wrx (i think) wheels im going to re spray white, And just got home from picking up a set of four WRX struts with lowering springs for 80 bux im going to put on it tomorrow. I really like this thing i think i got a good one  So yeah.... thought i would share

I just lol'd big time... hahahahahahahahhahahaha.
(It's not a Forester though! Although we seem to be getting a TON of 1st and 2nd gen Foresters traded in on Tiguans. By large women with short hair, golden retrievers and feminist bumper stickers.)
I had a '96 Impreza Outback with the 2.2. It was beat to crap, worn out and reliable as hell. Aside from the shifter bushings exiting the vehicle, and the muffler grenading 2 miles (we fixed it with a license plate, some red bull cans and a LOT of rivets) into a 1700 mile road trip, it was a fantastic little car.

This is so true, we have like 5 customers that match this description. I'm not quite sure this was the demographic they were shooting for. Is the Tiguan that abortion of a Chrysler minivan with vw emblems?

My friend's dad has a 3rd-gen ('98-'03) Legacy. Holy fuck do I ever love that car.
It's a manual, of course (this guy also owns a Stealth and once had an SVX), and it's just a blast to drive around in. Moves along with a fair bit of power, too. That Legacy is the most fun sedan I've had the pleasure of riding in.
