Well on audi you need to run brembos or zimmermans. None of that inroble crap you get from napa that warps. Gotta pay to play

actually, this may come as a surprise, but I have run NAPA rotors on just about every car I have owned and have only had one set warp. My Cobalt has run NAPA rotors at all four corners for over a year now and they're still not warped. Warped rotors are indicators of people that ride their brakes or rely on them too much while driving 'spiritedly'.

sam i have to agree, my sunfire, cavalier, and both grand prix's have always had whatever rotors were on sale at crappy tire. never had them warp, i just changed them every second brake job as a matter of course. Dont drive like an idiot and these things last

My Jetta has had only one part bought from a NAPA-style parts place, its alternator. Didn't really have another choice to be ready to go for the road trip we had and figured it would be okay....just over a year later the alternator crapped out again, about a month out of warranty. I decided to pay the extra $200 for the real alternator with the clutch pulley the second time....one year later and no trouble.

If you're going to go to a chain store, Napa's the only one to bother with. Especially for electrical stuff.

I've had too many AutoZone/Pep Boys alternators, starters, fuel pumps, etc fail (sometimes in under 24 hours, several dead out of the box) to touch their crap. So far I haven't had to replace a Napa electrical part again, and Napa's store brand filters are actually made by Wix.

Of course, now that I've typed that, my ~1 year old lifetime warranty alternator from Napa will go up in smoke, and the Napa air filter will get sucked through the MAF.

I also have a set of Napa rotors on the front of my car, though I still have the original drums (and possibly shoes) on the back. The first time I changed the front brakes... my jaw dropped. It had the wrong rotors entirely on it, there was over 1/2" of brake pad hanging off the edge. I'd like to say they were from a Sentra, since the Sentra shares the same bolt pattern as the 93-01 Altima (mine's a 99 Altima), and it's the only car Nissan made at the time that was smaller, shared the same bolt pattern, and was FWD. The new rotors are considerably larger.

i think on a lot of stuff, Napa has tightened up their quality control. Advance Auto and Auto Zone (the two franchises around here) sell shit. Unless it's a brand name, it's shit. I worked at a smaller parts outlet over in Vermont that was pretty good. Bond Auto... talk about flexible. We never pissed and moaned about warranties and we were good to the customer as well. That was actually a really good job, just too far to travel. And this was when gas was still around $2.00 a gallon.

what bothers me is crappy tire up here licences names like raybestos and monroe, they are not raybestos or monroe parts. I also discovered crappy tires precision line of brake pads are identical to the raybestos... but the price and warranty are different.

in terms of alternators i had a DOA one from napa this year and they actually hassled me on the exchange...

Both Raybestos and Monroe have a refurb line they do offer to chains like Canadian Tire and Pep Boys so its hit or miss but their warranty does cover the misses.

Also, the maker for NAPA brakes and rotors I have been told from the District Manager for NAPA here in Portland is....Magna! So if your vehicle uses parts from Magna as an OEM (Chrysler for example is a big Magna customer), chances are you can't tell the difference.

i had an issue with canadian tire monroe pads a few years back, after getting nowhere with canadian tire i wrote monroe, they politely told me that canadian tire licences the name and sources the parts themselves, monroe has no involvement with the parts

Either way if it's a current body style Caravan, the rear brakes are still only good for 15k miles. Vw has actually stopped using Mopar pads on the rear of the Routans and developed their own pads for them since rear brakes have been such an issue, and Chrysler only warranties them for like a day.

a friend of mine has a 2000-something Dodge Caravan and not only does it eat brakes every other month, but front end parts are an issue with it as well. Ball-joints and tie-rod ends seem to always be failing on it.

I don't know what motivates people to buy Caravans, I drove one for work for the past 2 weeks (we were doing an aircraft transfer, these vans were rentals). We had 2 2011 Grand Caravans. I woke up in the middle of the night just to remind myself how much I hated them. Garbage on wheels.

I put my new pads last night, and got a good 500-600km of driving today, so far so good. Those EBC pads are awesome too, and they are barely bedded-in.

Last week I took my scout troop on a trip the Gettysburg. Halfway there my brakes start grinding, so Sunday after I got home I had to do them. $106 out the door for lifetime ceramic pads and new rotors, plus a $25 rebate.

After an hour of whacking the frozen rotors with a hammer, I Googled "removing stuck brake rotors" and found a video showing someone putting bolts on the caliper mounting bracket so that they push against the rotors when tightened. That 5-minute video changed how I've done brakes for 20+ years. When in doubt, Google it.

One question, though: the inboard driver's side pad was worn through, but the others were still usable. Does that mean the caliper needs rebuilt?
