I've goggled this, however people seem to have mixed opinions about this on most forums. The pads on my car are worn out, so I ordered a new set, some EBC redstuff. The rotors are fine, no groves, no signs of overheating or warping. Can I just throw the new pads on and call it a day? Or should I replace them? Car is a 2007 A4 2.0T Quattro.

in my experience, if the rotors aren't warped or gouged/grooved badly, you can get away with it.

If the rotors are not warped and there is not a brake system sale at NAPA or anywhere, leave it as is and check again in 3 months.

when i had my sunbird, sunfire, cavalier those cars ate brake pads like they were free, so i went with 2 pad changes per set of rotors as a rule, never had a problem

The rotors develop a finger print like grove, that the pad takes, depending on how deep it is or bad putting on new pads will make noise, or vibrations. Dont forget if the discs go next those pads will have the shape of the old disc and that could cause noise as well. Might as well spend the extra 150-200 bucks and replace the rotors as well

If you cant afford 200 bucks to fix your car you shouldn't own one.

My buddy have 2 sets of pads for his track car. It's also his daily driver. When we take it to the track or an autocross, we change the pads. When we get home, we change back. Same rotors. As long as they are in good condition, there's absolutely no reason to change the rotors, other than to make your wallet lighter. If there's some rust pitting or grooving, I'll machine them, since I have access to a brake lathe. If I didn't have access to the tools, I'd probably replace them. Some cars do have a very soft OEM pad compound. GM seems to be the worst for it, but I don't see that it matters, as long as the car still stops well enough. I think we went through 4 sets of pads on my cousin's Grand Am before the rotors up front needed to be turned. At that point, the car was too rusted out to bother with, so we pulled the engine and scrapped the car.

oh give us a fucking break... if your rotors cost more than $100, you need to find a different car.

Those 200 dollar rotors better be made of transparent aluminum.

yeah I'm gonna keep em. My safety is due, my registration is due, my license is due, so if I can avoid the 300$ for 4 rotors I will.

You'd be surprised (or maybe you wouldn't) at the amount of people that complain about the price of the 3rd line rotors for their BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc. and want something cheaper still (and of course expect something of high quality, but that's another rant). I actually told a commercial customer the other day that there was no way in hell I'd put the $30 Qualis rotors on my Jetta, let alone his customer's 2008 GTI, haha... My Jetta has had only one part bought from a NAPA-style parts place, its alternator. Didn't really have another choice to be ready to go for the road trip we had and figured it would be okay....just over a year later the alternator crapped out again, about a month out of warranty. I decided to pay the extra $200 for the real alternator with the clutch pulley the second time....one year later and no trouble.

With that attitude Nismo, I would promise you that given the same budget between us, I could build something faster, funner, and more innovative in my backyard. Just sayn'. The best teacher is a tight budget.

That "fingerprint" takes about 10 good brake applications to bed into the new rotors. I find I have to do the rotors on my Bug every other pad replacement.
