... rats. I hate rats.

I had many pet rats; great little characters.
Wild ones, especially in my face, I do not like.
Pack rats wuv to shred auto wiring, even ignition wires. Ghosts in the machine

Rats and coons can make a lot of noise in walls, floors and ceilings.
Doesn't take much to set off some of these ghost hunters

The craziest thing I heard was a vulture growling from the darkness .... it sounded like what I would imagine a vampire would sound like

No mean to offend on the hating rats bit. I just... ugh. Rats in the wild have not been cool to me. Just saying.

Racoons I actually like, but no racoons in Alaska. Haven't seen one in years D:

There are a lot of rodent creatures around here though.

Oh, yeah...that vulture growl is freaky! I had no idea they did that til one day I walked into a building and heard it coming from one of the rooms; looked like the bird had decided to live there, and he (or she) didn't much care for company!

I haven't had any negative experiences with racoons; they tend to be rather innocuous unless cornered or sick; now possums...they're vile creatures, and they have a pretty nasty growl/hiss, too.
Haven't experienced it during an explore, but one of the most terrifying sounds I've heard is the "vixen's scream" of a fox (it's not uncommon to hear them in the woods at night near my place). If you've never heard it, it literally sounds like someone being brutally murdered...

Ive been very close to vultures ie about 6 feet.
Came across a pair of them walking the RR tracks overlooking a creek while they were taking a break from the midday heat.
They tolerated my presence as I sat a while next to them for a few minutes.
They smell a bit nasty and looked worse.
The one hissed at me...

No offense taken. 2 different versions of similar critters.
A cool pet rat behaves a bit like a dog; they will greet you and recognize you. Mine would stay in their aquarium with no lid.

Norwegian brown rats are the worst.
Big, intelligent, resourceful and adaptable.
They've been known to gnaw through cinder block to get to food.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

This made my evening.

But to OP, that's an awfully vague "encounter" to make you a believer. I'm not judging or anything, but there's most likely a very natural explanation for the sound you heard. I'd have investigated instead of leaving, but I can see the experience being freaky.

I’m actually headed back there in a few hours. Obviously it could have been another person that was moving something around, maybe to set up a shot or a scrapper taking something out, hell even an animal that ran into something. Seeing as me and my buddy aren’t the most intimidating guys in the world and don’t carry weapons for obvious reasons we weren’t to interested in finding out if there was a logical explanation to the noise, so we chalked it up to a spirit. This time I’m headed back with 3 other people so if it does happen again we will definitely be investigating

Possums are mostly harmless. Just don't pet them as they might carry diseases.

Definite supernatural occurrences? None that can be deemed "True ghostly encounters". However I cannot be alone when I say that we as a community have all had the unexplained footsteps phenomenon.

To elaborate, I have had several instances where I am exploring trying to be exceptionally quiet and all the sudden my fellow explorer or I hear footsteps above, below, or in the distance. Then after further investigation find no evidence of any other person or animal in the building/area. There has been countless times where this has happened in the middle of nowhere and makes you wonder if you're dealing with ninjas, or perhaps something more spectral.

What are your thoughts on this? Any similar situations worth mentioning?

Or maybe someone just fucking with you
I greatly enjoy doing this or watching people from the shadows.
Or an animal...
Put eyes on it or it was never there...

That's a thought that slipped my mind completely.

So it was you after all? Maybe I should start checking the shadows of my shots a little more closely...

Hospitals are always haunted, apparently.

I'm in 50+ UE groups on Facebook. If you post a creepy ghost story or any creepypasta with or without a photo, you get blocked. If you include the word 'haunted' in your caption, I will figuratively shit on your head. If you post the three worst things rolled into one; ghost clickbait youtube link I will not only figuratively shit on your head but I'll also figuratively make your friends watch.

I've never seen anything that could be considered supernatural. The closest I ever got was when a few friends and I descended down into the Columbia Mine. At the very bottom of the mine is a final incline that goes down to the water table. At the top of the incline is the skip that the miners used to excavate the incline.

One day I received an interesting email. Turns out there is an old guy in a nursing home up in Oregon who was the mining engineer that drove the incline. He had found the photo on my website and decided to reach out to me to talk about the mine. (He verified his credentials by sending me some mine diagrams that aren't in the public domain.)

So this guy asks me whether we've ever seen any ghosts when we were down there. Evidently, two of his miners were riding up the incline on the skip when it jumped off the track and crushed them to death against the wall right at the top of the incline. (just behind me in the photo)

I haven't heard from him in years and he's probably passed by now. It was quite interesting to talk with someone who actually oversaw the excavation of that part of the mine. Now he's just part of the mine's history.

My self no, I do like goose bumps when your hair stands up on end.
I do have s story tho My niece used to work at an haunted attraction.
http://www.spookers.co.nz/
While she was waiting for the next group to come thru
She was stationed in a a black room, dressed all in black (by herself).
Her back was against the wall and basically had to jump out and scare the punters. After a while she was thinking the group was taking a long while, having heard the screams further down the tour time started to drag as she felt you loose some senses and time feels suspended when you can't see nothing in the pitch black. Suddenly there was no noise and perfectly quiet and right in her ear whispered "Get out" she even felt the breath on her ear.
Of course no one was in the room and it unnerved her some.

This is going to sound crazy but I believe in reincarnation. I usually forget my dreams after a day or two but I swear I had one when I was about 4 years old where I was chasing a soccer ball onto the road and I got hit by a car.

Yes, that sounds crazy.

I've been up to an old by scout camp that was decommissioned in the 80's. On the drive up the hill you pass an old cemetery where the widow that originally owned the land is buried. Some folks used it to illegally grow pot inconspicuously, about a decade and a half ago there was a police raid on the spot and it ended in a shootout. one of the two perpetrators was shot and killed on the spot while the other escaped into the hillside. When I went up there at night, things felt off. It got colder the farther into the camp we went (could be in my head) and I couldn't shake the feeling someone was watching us from just inside one of the huts. all around an eerie vibe, other people claim theres a spirit there that doesn't want you to leave.
