In Memoriam...

As I'm not sure when I'll next be out and about I was looking through past years exploits and realised just how many choice spots have now vanished from the scene, either through renovation, conversion or wiped off the face of the earth.

Here are a few that we no longer have.

Barrow Gurney Hospital - demolished

1

2

3

John Tams Crown Works Pottery - cleared out, then burned in a huge fire before being mostly demolished.

4

5

Mobil Oil Grease Blending Plant - demolished

6

7

8

The Abbey School - converted into apartments

9

10

11

12

Mansfield General Hospital - demolished. Arguably the best example of a derelict hospital the UK ever had.

13

14

15

16

17

Foster Bros. Flour Mill - burned in a huge fire, then demolished.

18

19

20

Upper Heyford Hospital - demolished. My local derelict hospital

21

22

23

Chance Technical College - mostly demolished, this remaining part has been on fire about a thousand times.

24

25

26

Zone Braams (Belgium) - Demolished, with a new radar facility being built on the land

27

28

Thanks for reading my trip down memory lane

Loving 2, 9, 14 & 15.
Dallas Fort Worth doesn't have much but it too is disappearing rapidly, replaced mostly by high dollar development. Miss going to certain locations but at least we have pics.

The radar was a former NATO communications satellite, part of a long range network between various NATO countries. Apparently the new base has, or will have, four satellites instead of just the one.

As far as it goes it was the best 'one room' explore ever!

Jeez dude, those were some amazing places. Now you've got me trapped in Greystone nostalgia. We've lost some really cool places here recently as well.

They really were. Mansfield especially, that hospital was kind of the epitome of the word 'epic'. Also it had the world's best security guard who lived in a house opposite the main gates and would happily let you roam around the place unaccompanied if you just wanted to take photos, which was kind of the best kept secret about the place - it was an utter ball ache pain in the arse to try and get into otherwise being literally surrounded by houses on all sides.

The sad thing is the photos here are only from 2011-2013, we've lost a load more cool places since then but didn't want to make this one massive thread haha.

Such a shame. Maybe a thread like that wouldn't be a bad idea though, a compilation thread of all the places that were demolished this year. Sort of like a mass obituary.

It's sad to know these places are gone, but thanks to these shots, it doesn't feel like as much of a loss. Nice work.

It is sad that no other explorer will have the opportunity to see them as you did and enjoy the same adventures. But, Quite nice to be able to come here and reflect on what was. Thanks much for your documentation.

Thanks guys...I enjoy looking through my past explorations occasionally, I'm the kind of guy who remembers stuff - feelings, emotions - about near enough every explore I've ever been on so it brings things right back to me.
