Gary Indiana was amazing! I spent 8 hours and it was not even close enough. There are so many great abandoned buildings that you could spend a whole day and not find them all. Be careful but it is worth the visit. I got talked out of climbing the bell tower, but maybe next time. 1.

Nice set.

This thread belongs in "Great Lakes" section. But no worries you're new. Nice first post... a mod will probably move you're thread there soon.

Oh yeah and welcome to UER

I get that they can be useful, but the locations youre exploring don't look like they need it.

why not just get a respirator?
gas masks are overkill... and before you get all wang chung and uncunted, i work a job where we actually WEAR gas masks and SCBA's.

besides, gas masks only work for gas (hence the term). The filters sometimes don't really block really fine asbestos particles.

here's a good read in the Rookie Forum:

Awesome pictures. I'd love to be able to go out there some time. And with the Asbestos thing, yeah, you'd probably have been better off with a respirator with P100's, but hey, when the environment requires, use what you've got. However, I agree that there is a bit of a cool factor to the look of a full mask. Keep one around for photo ops ;)

Edit:
Message was directed towards the person in the Sleeping W/ Sirens shirt.

The "Hyatt" was actually a Sheraton Hotel (and built originally as a Holiday Inn). If the city has its way, it may not be around for much longer; they were working in there last time I went by...

Yeah everytime theres a post featuring a person with a gas mask/respirator, a couple people why reply saying you're stupid for wearing one, even when its totally required. So yeah don't waste your time debating it with people.

I don't wear them but I don't know why some people *cough* Samurai *cough* ;) get but hurt over that shit.

fuck you if you don't like it, Kenny.

there are those of us who actually rely on those stupid things to, oh i don't know, keep us fucking alive? And besides, a gas mask is useless unless you have the correct filters for whatever you plan on facing. For the longest time at my job, we had to have two masks; one had a filter for Chlorine Dioxide, the other mask had a filter for Hydrogen Sulfide. It was almost like working a government job. Finally, after years of stupidity, the morons in purchasing started buying filters that would work for both gases. (now if I could just get them to replace my chemical suit that got trashed...)

if you don't actually need a mask and aren't into weird rubber s&m shit, you look like a tool wearing it. end of story. As i enjoy gas masks and like weird rubber s&m shit, I like gas masks. As for the pictures, very well done. And yes, I did see the respirator which actually makes far more sense in that environment. Personally, to my thinking, wandering around Gary, Indiana without an AK47 is a fairly ballsy proposition. From what I have been reading, Gary is kind of a prototype for how far Detroit is going to sink. Kudos to you for the gallery.
