I guess I'll just flesh out the details of what Photoseeker posted. Location 1 was St. Joseph's Native Residential School for girls, and as Photoseeker said, the boys school was across the street. The school was built in 1916 on land purchased by the Jesuits, and the school was run by the Daughters of the Heart of Saint Mary. St. Joseph's closed in 1962, as native children were encouraged to integrate into the co-existing community schools and enrollment dwindled. (The boys school had closed in 1958.) In 1981, it was gutted by fire, but I'm glad the shell remains, and so far seems that it will stay there. Unfortunately, the boys school was demolished in 2004. We could see the base of the stone wall Photoseeker mentioned, despite the snow and there was a monument of some sort we'll be checking out once we can get to it. I'm puzzled about the house and other small buildings that seems to be on the property...any insight into that, Photoseeker? When I look at the aerial view it seems even more like it is actually on the same lot, but things are hard to tell when they are snow covered or a crappy satellite image. I added this shot too the Flickr set...that's not a road, that's his driveway.
Posted by Faint Light I'm looking forward to what you post after going back to feed the blackflies in June.

I am really hoping it's a dry spring so I can beat the black flies out there, but even if I don't...all those itchy welts will be worth it to get inside that little old house. Editted for clarity. [last edit 1/20/2009 2:48 AM by Wander Woman - edited 1 times]
