In-Depth tours: Photography is not allowed.
Photography (with waiver) is only allowed on the $50 photography tour.

So they expect us to pay them so that they can use our photos?

No thanks.

No, they expect you to pay them so that you can't use yours.

I've talked with them about this on their Facebook page and they refuse to budge on the issue. If you want good tours with no restrictions on photography, then go on an Explore Buffalo tour. They don't do the Richardson Olmsted Complex, but they conduct tours of other interesting buildings and neighborhoods, such as Buffalo's Electric Tower and one of the grain silos, among others.

Explore Buffalo

Sounds tempting. If any local people wanted to meet up for this I would be down.

hrmmmm....schedule depending, I might actually consider that photography tour. $50 aint cheap, but neither is life (or driving to Buffalo), and if the only restriction is that I can't use the pictures for commercial purposes, I'm fine with that. I've paid more for stupider shit in the past - this could actually be fun.

It's not just that. They will own the copyright.

I'm not overly worried about that. For one I dont plan on doing anything more than posting the photos on here and maybe facebook/my website, and secondly I'm Canadian and it's going to expensive and time consuming for them to come after me. I can't imagine they're going to start extradition proceedings because I posted my photos on UER...

I really and truly believe the intent is not to discourage amateur photographers from taking personal photos for non commercial distribution to friends and family. They're trying to stop professional photographers from coming in, taking photos and selling them to a publisher to put on a Steven King novel or something along those lines. Although I don't like what they're trying to do, I do believe my use of the photos will fit well within the guidelines they're laying out....

and where does it say that they'll own the copyright?? Have you seen a copy of the contract, or are you just speculating??

I'd be up for it too if they schedule another one (as all 3 are sold out).

I've seen it. This is from Yokes' website: The offending photographic license

Hrmmmm, well I stand corrected. That is totally insane, and wildly unreasonable....

Wow, screw that. It looks like an interesting place, but I refuse to pay to take photographs, where I am not the copyright holder.

that was a contract for a specific usage, not as part of the public tours, and that was also 4 years ago.

if there is anything they make you sign, feel free to ignore it - I did. Enforcement would require it holding up in court (hint: it won't) and them bothering to go after you about it (which they will not bother doing). So, go, shoot, do whatever you want with the pics.
