| | | Hey pals, So, does anyone know what construction site security is like in Victoria, or anywhere nearby for that matter? I've heard everything from 24-hour watchpeople to absolutely nothing. -Lupurus

Depends. If you're thinking of the one I think you're thinking of (hah), I've been watching it. It has 3 cranes, right? Lights are kept bright on it 24/7, and security makes rounds every few hours. its do-able though.

| | | One of my crazier friends used to be an urban BMX rider. He'd regularly head down to construction sites, sneak in, build up some jumps with friends, and then see how long they could enjoy themselves before the cops (mounted on bicycles) came. They regularly engaged in high speed bicycle chases through the downtown, but my friend rarely got caught, as he is a skilled MTB and BMX rider, whereas the cops all rode delicate skinny tire bicycles and possessed few riding skills. This guy might be willing to lend you some of his personal knowledge. He's a great guy.

Not to mention it being right in front of a busy 24 hour "public service center" But it does look supersweet [last edit 3/23/2009 4:01 AM by J Peterman - edited 1 times]

Indeed.
It's almost worth the risk.

Ok, serious logical 'phallacy' here... maybe you never took it in high school, but here's a quick lesson in basic physics. MTB Tread = more friction = slow Wide tire = more friction = slow Heavy = more effort = slow Low tire pressure (25-40psi) = more tread = slow BMX Low hip placement = 60%-70% of pedal stroke muscle wasted = slow Heavy as shit = more effort = slow Fat tire = more friction = slow Road Bike: Skinny tire = less friction = higher speed Bald tire = less friction = higher speed High tire pressure (80-175psi) = less tread on ground = higher speed Lightweight = less effort = higher speed High hip placement = 100% pedal stroke efficiency = higher speed A retarded 12 year old on acid on a road bike could beat a mtb/bmx rider downtown. I mean, do you think Lance armstrong rides a road bike for the added challenge? The reason that anyone on a bike of any kind can outrace the cops is because they're inbred donut munching fascists with (as you said) no riding skills, and not because they're riding some macho POS mtb or bmx. Imagine a military tank (mtb/bmx) racing a ferrari (road bike)...
Also, there is nothing delicate about road bike tires. [last edit 3/23/2009 6:49 AM by Stong - edited 1 times]

| | | Wait a second, there....i race road for fun in the local races, and i'm a beginner mtb rider. You have a good point. What i meant was that my friend was going over stairs and jumps and stuff to get away from the police, avoiding the flat roads.

| | | first comment in the years I've been on here... cycling is my bag. I've been an urban cyclist for years. Literally. I started urban cycling in Ottawa in the 80's and I continued in various cities like Phoenix, LA, Calgary, and now in Vancouver. The "ONLY" reason a BMXer or MTBer would get away from the pigs is... riding ability! The Pigs ride MTB bikes... fat tired but knobby- less tired bikes. Back in the day, the rumour was- rip one off, and the city SHUTS DOWN. And I've seen it..steal one of their own and the militia comes in... one of ours gets jacked and... who cares. Dudilligence... share and share alike.. what ever you wanna call it... I say urban cycling ROCKS and urban cyclists (bmxers/ MTBers/ whaterver) push the limit. The only thing is... if you think you can get away because the cops are supposed to be riding delicate machinery... don't! Re:Think!!! Cops ride durable, rugged machines- as light as can be... fiscally responsible as they are... (sarcasm should be noted) but able to withstand major hits... so, be sure you are able to ride better than they can (and they are getting better all the time... I have 15 years of Urban Cycling as example and only 3 tickets... I think).

| | | Does anybody here remember that show about bike cops? It was set in a hot american city (Miami?) and it was really cheesy. I remember them chasing guys down and like doing wheelies into locked doors and smashing through without slowing down. I think one episode one of the main characters got shot in the ass. Anybody else share these memories?
