| | | When you decide to go into a high visibility target, with maybe better than lax security. And maybe even it's daytime. Do you limit the group size? How big? Why? It of course depends on where we're going, and the likelihood of being seen, but i think 4 or 5 is about the max.

| | | I try to keep a small group. The most I have been with is 3 other people. I try to limit it to just me and another person when possible. It's not because of who might see us going in, considering as long as everyone keeps up, no matter how many people they will see you either way. It is mostly because the more people, the more chance of someone making noise or stepping on something.

| | | In the past I've gone alone, however, that was back in the days of my RE (rural ex.). Now, the most I'll take with me is 1 other person. 2 people lower the risks of having to worry about other people besides you and your buddy. I.e..injuries, breaking things, making noise, and just plain stupidity. But if you are taking more than 2, make sure you trust them and know their maturity level is up to par.

Yeah, avoid clusterfucks. More than two, is too many. I prefer going alone. Total control for things if they work, or go wrong. Appear less threatening, much lower profile. Much faster mobility, stealth, never no chatter. Voices travel for long distances as does cig smoke. Only one story when shit goes bad, and no one else to do dumb shit you can have to take responsibility for. Sharper concentration means less fuck-ups. safety in numbers is an illusion in many respects unless your a girl, perhaps. No matter how bad I've been hurt, I've always dragged my carcass the hell out without calling 911. Only time I didn't was when pinned in a Miata with internal injuries that had been t-boned by a tractor trailer. Even then I was trying to claw my way out after I came to. Ha! I ain't scared of exploring alone!

| | | I like groups of three. That way, if one person gets hurt, it is much easier to get them out with two people; or if the injuries are bad enough to warrant not moving the injured person, one person can stay with him/her and the other can go for help. I like exploring alone, but I usually like to take at least one person. Not only for the whole "power in numbers" thing, but also that I like to share my experience. I photograph while I explore not only for the art/composition but also to show people the beauty I find in these places. It's so much easier to share that with someone that is there, assuming they don't totally object to where they are and what they are doing.

| | | I've brought Large groups of people into buildings, one meet was like over 30 people into a building right across the street from a police station.
The trick is just to be careful, and break them up into small groups that will not get noticed as easily. Especially when there is camera's present in the downtown core where you are all walking to.

| | | Three's usually a good number in most situations. You don't have to worry so much about losing track of people and whatnot. It also helps to have one more set of eyes for when you're running on autopilot mode and not paying attention to everything you should be.

Excellent point, I forgot to mention that. I tend to have two modes: Explore Mode, and Photograph Mode. Often times I will get really into my exploring and not put much thought into my photos; and likewise I will get way into my photos, and not pay close enough attention to what I am doing, where I am stepping, etc.

| | | Most times you hear trouble before you see it. Talk nulls that advantage out, and is a liability. If camoed right, you don't stand out many times when standing still taking pics, so lookouts have a limited worth as they are more likey to be spotted then spot a crafty stationary observer. The best sentries employ this method by simply taking a vantage point with concealment but a large overview, and waiting. I've lost count of the times I have heard/seen others exploring, or even looting, and they haven't ever known I was there. Some I have pics of. I was either reconning or shooting, I was on the move; not waiting to ambush. Less is stealthier.

| | | I was thinking of LRRPs. Their missions are a bit different; armed recon. Six is a good number, and 12 or more is considered a "heavy team". Heavy teams are generally disliked as they tend to lose the stealth advantage. They are also "thrown" together most times. Lurp's work as a close knit team; they know each other well and how to read them without using words. Strangely in Nam if they walk into a jungle ambush (which was rare) SOP was to charge into the enemy firing on full auto and "burn through", then bug-out fast. It was an effective tactic.

That's what I'm saying, you don't need numbers unless killing power is needed. Even then sometimes fewer is better. Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock operated in the Nam jungle sometimes for more than a week normally with one other man. Some missions he stalked his prey single handed. Read his book, it's good. http://www.pineywo....com/hathcock.html

| | | I would say 5 would be a max for most locations where there is more risk. You could probably get more in when going to a more remote place or something at least more enclosed. And I agree when having more people, small groups are best way to enter and leave. A crowd of 6 people walking around draws more attention than 2.

| | | the most ive ever gonin with would prbably be around 6. not b/c of stealth reasons, but mainly due to the lack of people i know that are actually interested in the art of UE. i usually go w/ my 2 buddies. however, i have gone into certain places where i have gone in w/ 2 people and ended up hanging out w/ a group of 20+ people that i had met there.
