I've climbed (including top rope, bouldering, lead) for around five years now. It comes in handy once in a while but less than I thought it would.

I love parkour, and there can be many uses for it during UE. I would consider myself mainly self-taught. Parkour is more of a discipline than a sport and can help you reach from Point A to Point B quicker. Many parkour movements can be employed during UE, such as the climbing and jumping portion. Also, an experienced traceur will be used to the heights and dangers associated with UE and will therefore make a better companion. I have noticed that others not trained in parkour will slow myself down when passing through abandoned areas. If you find yourself in a dangerous situation, such as being chased by homeless persons, then your odds of escape will drastically rise. However; parkour should not be used to escape from the police, because resisting arrest is a much more serious charge than trespassing.

Running in unknown buildings is a good way to find a hellhole proper. Once in a free fall you are gravity fodder. One unseen or hidden hole is all it takes Haste lays to waste. Homeless peeps? I don't run... but I might take some names. I've carried thousands of dollars in cam gear in crowds and sketchy places. Never lost one piece to a shitbird. A pro cam with an L lense is a 5 pound mallet perfect for face plants... keep the cam in your hand

Welp. Broke my ankle bouldering the other day. Of all the sketch climbing and jumping and running I've done... I was taken down by an awkward fall from four feet onto a crash pad, on top of a padded foam floor. How....

That sucks. If you're lucky you didn't tear the lateral ankle ligament. It doesn't reconstruct very well. http://www.aofas.o...econstruction.aspx I avoid jumping unless necessary. Eventually excessive jumping catches up with you. Always wear a good pair of high top laced boots; these will help to protect your ankles, and are good to rehab in once you are walking on it again. Low top shoes offer no protection for the LA ligament. Without this critical ligament the ankle is completely unstable. Protect it!

Not a fan of bouldering. I don't like the jumping/falling aspect of it haha. I do really enjoy rock climbing though. The muscles you build doing those activities definitely help though whether it's climbing fences, fire escapes, or whatever else.

Bouldering allows you to look at access points that you otherwise would think are unreachable. Because you gain the technique and grip strength needed to climb hairy areas in the bouldering gym, it directly translates to more confidence in getting to a hard to reach access point, like a second story balcony/walkway
