Back in the days of grade school, my buddies and I would always go crawling through the street drains around our area. It was fun for a while and we found some cool places, but one day we found a half abandoned cement factory. It was the coolest thing ever to us. We went there all the time and brought many friends. The people there eventually got pissed off because we kept turning the power of their gate off. So they called the cops one time and we got kicked out. That didn't stop our adventures! The factory was by train tracks that led us to some vacant dilapidated condos. (Sadly torn down not too long ago) Which, in turn, led to all day expeditions down the rails. High School hit and we slowed down on exploration. We would occasionally go through the sewers, but only a couple times a month. Our lives changed forever when I discovered (the argument could be made that I rediscovered)Cementland. This place was our cement factory on steroids. From this point we discovered a ton of cool places. Crestwood Mall, Creve Couer Lake Bridge, and the Church. It was at this point when I joined this website. I knew these locations would only intrigue me and my friends for so long. We need new spots and through this website we can expand to places we never thought possible.

I'm rather new here, but I've been exploring for a while now.
I got into exploring honestly when I picked up photography. I've always been interested in run down places and checking them out, but never had the desire to explore until I dove into photography more. I always thought it'd be fun to check out places very few people go, however before I took photos, it just seemed to fruitless. telling people about the adventures just didnt seem to do it justice.

When I was around 11 or 12 years old I found an abandoned house out in the woods near my neighborhood. Inside there were bottles upon bottles of wine, spoiled food items, cigarillos, and lots of bric-a-brac. Some years later I decided to look up pictures of old Russian factories on the internet, and I eventually ended up on UER. Upon seeing my search results I reminisced back to the days spent in the house filled with bottles of wine and cigarillos, and developed a desire to recapture the adventure I had in the abandoned house in the woods. It also helped that a friend of mine who had also been to the abandoned house also thought the idea of urban exploring would be cool.
I guess the short answer would be, wine and cigarillos.

When I was 12 my Dad bought a house in upstate NY with a few acres of land that included a second building that used to be a barn that the previous owner had started converting into a second house but never finished. As cool as that was to walk around inside, directly across our driveway from that building was a huge four-story abandoned building that at various times in its history been a bar & restaurant, a hotel, and at some point a whorehouse. I'm not sure I ever knew in which order. Anyway, against my Dad's warnings I'd spend every chance I got in there. I never even had the thought to take pictures, though I wish I had. Eventually someone bought it and started renovating it, I moved out before they finished but I'm pretty sure they're still living there.

When I was very little I remember walking in an creek bed with my dad. On one walk we saw the entrance of a run off drain that dumped in the creek. I explored the tunnel with my dad and had a blast. That memory always stuck with me and in grade school I asked my buddy soap_is_dope if he would like to explore some drains by our house. In our pursuit for drains we came across an old half abandoned cement plant. We spent days at the plant and loved it. We didnt stop there though, we followed the nearby train tracks to an abandoned apartment complex. After grade school we didnt explore for a while but the love of exploration never died. While at the lake of the ozarks with soap_is_dope, we explored an abandoned prison. The prison reminded me of my love for exploration and now I explore constantly. Since the prison I have explored an abandoned mall, an abandoned church, the creve coeur bridge, and cement land with my partners in crime soap_is_dope and Cheezy_ruizy.

James Bond, Die Hard, and Dirty Harry were big influences on me. I'm sure there are a lot of other movies that motivated me. All these movies involve sneaking around buildings, climbing ladders, and walking around rooftops. I love this hobby.

I actually just got into exploring. I've watched a few videos and did some research in my area and found some pretty cool places. I hope to do some more exploring soon!

I knew about a crawlspace when I was in college; a bit difficult to access, but I had an itch to check it out, so I did. It was interesting, but nothing too serious.
I started getting more into it when I was on a date one night. We passed by an abandoned building that I'd always wanted to go in to, but was afraid of doing so alone. Because we were two, and no one was around I figured, "who says no?" and just went in. I'd say that's how it started for me.

Grew up with an abandoned house in our backyard and was never allowed in, until I found the keys. That first time of opening the door and just going through everything was just magical, and ever since then I've just always loved going through places like that.

My parents used to explore ever since I can remember, we'd stop alongside the highways a lot and I'd have to wait in the car because it was too dangerous. I remember one time walking through very tall grass with my grandma when I was about 5 years old going to a big abandoned building! I was never allowed to enter buildings and my mom would photograph the outsides while my dad would go inside and explore. They usually only explored old farm houses, barns and abandoned grain elevators and such as we live in Saskatchewan.
My first time going into an abandon building alone was actually one I had full access to because my best friends dad owned it and said we could do what we wanted with it (we wanted to fix it up but found asbestos and decided it was too expensive to get rid of it and it was just too big of a job). I think it's in my blood though lol I LOVE to learn and I usually do extensive research on a site before I explore, as a kid I always did the research part but never explored until I was about 17 when I was brave enough!

Ive always been into exploring abandoned buildings. There wasnt much to do where I grew. All we did as teenagers was smoke weed, skateboard and explore places.
I still love exploring and getting the "rush" that comes with it.

I'm from RI and we have a lot of history here. There's a bunch of mansions that is our major draw for tourism. But along with that, there are a number of places that have been completely forgotten. Like most of you I assume, there's some appeal to seeing something that has gone unnoticed for years. Not to mention trespassing can be damn fun when you get away with it! Probably the safest way to get that "rush" without doing anything too stupid.

I wanted to do something different. I like photography and I thought abandonment would be fun to photograph. I also enjoy history. So I figured urban exploring would be a perfect fit.

My friend had been to an abandoned boys school and was so impressed by it he brought me back to it. Haven't been to a school ever since though, only asylums and a few factories

The main reason me an my friends got into Urban Exploration was because we would all use to climb our school roof on weekends and eat Subway on top of it.
