Fountains Abbey is one of the largest and best preserved ruined Cistercian monasteries in England. Founded in 1132, the abbey operated for over 400 years, until 1539, when Henry VIII ordered the Dissolution of the Monasteries. -Wikipedia 1.

Open to visitors by day, but while rolling through northern England at 11pm we didn't feel like waiting. Our original plan was to camp here, but after finding out it's not as secluded as we previously thought it would be. and after hearing howls in the distance and building with lights on we kinda got sketched out. still. an amazing piece of medieval history that i was stunned to see in person, having never left the united states before this was quite an experience.

Wish we had these sorts of spots in North America! Hopefully I'll be able to see some when I'm in Europe next year! Excellent work!

It's interesting seeing it in this lighting, your photos captured some unique colors. Perhaps your timing was fortunate.
