CFB Rivers

I have been meaning to get out to Rivers for many years but I continue to manage putting it off. We finally made it out there a few weeks ago to see it. It appears the large hog operation is gone and there appeared to be fresh work on asbestos abatement going on. Is there perhaps some demolition planned for the site? Hard to say but I am glad that I took the time to see it. Below is my write up that I put on my blog. Even though it has been exposed on this site many times I still decided to hide it's true identity on my blog.

I never thought I would say this, but I wished I lived in Saskatchewan. You guys seem to have several VERY interesting spots to discover. Seriously. Arilem and you have some really nice content on your websites: ski hills (what the f*#@), small rural schools and beautiful Ukrainian churches...What more can we ask for?

It's too bad there's next to nothing left in Base Rivers. I went there last summer and I was a little disappointed, to say the least. I watched a video from a man who used to lived there -while the base was at its peak- and it filled me with nostalgia. It must be hard to drive past or visit a place that no longer exists...and where you spent most of your childhood. I just wish we could travel back in time and see what it was like half a century ago!

If you ever go to Ontario someday, Base Edgar is a must-see. I really enjoyed my visits there. Most buildings are still standing and there is a lot to explore. But I am pretty sure there are other military bases closer (in the USA probably) that are worth the trip.

I'm likely to be there in about 3 weeks, so I hope it's still standing!

First picture is January 2014 of the remaining hanger probably the last photo of the complete hanger ever.
second is March 2014 and someone is dismantling it

Buildings still standing
-steam plant
-fire water pump house
-assorted utility buildings
-pool
-h-huts(barracks)fox is the only resident
-married quarters
-large warehouse
-abandoned hog barns
-what appears to be a small active business.

So is the power plant gone or being dis-assembled?

I am glad I stopped procrastinating and saw it.

Nice pictures Master Private!

I barely recognized the place because of the snow...

So, which hangar are they dismantling? The empty one or the one with massive piles of fertilizer in it?

They seem to be removing the doors so far of the larger hanger by the old QM. There's scaffolding on the roof and a motor home parked beside it . not sure what the plan is just glad I made it out there when I did. would be interesting to go back in a year or so and see if that's all they were doing .
