| | | Posted by cloak-and-dagger As of today, Thursday July 30, 2009. Broadway and Quebec. Old building, boarded up but the front door (rather, the plank of wood blocking the entrance) has been knocked off or something. Open windows and stuff. Looks interesting, but I would be careful of creepies and homeless and the like. I didn't see any activity from within, but it's a busy street and it's probably occupied in some way. But the business, whatever used to be there, is definitely dead. C&D

Opsal steal...been closed for years. Was originally the Hayes truck company building from what i heard.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |

| | | Posted by slice Well,New west has a few places.....the old casino boat...pier 606 bar....the quay... And how bout someone going back to McBarge, and seeing how its holding up? In Burnaby, off Penzance drive, theres a mine shaft that goes under capitol hill.
|
Is the mine shaft accessible still? Or safe at all? It sounds interesting. I was just exploring some caves over on Bowen Island yesterday and it reminded me of reading your post. Is it worth checking out? Speaking of Penzance Dr, has anyone ever gone to the end and gotten into that oil refinery there? It's still in use, so security could be a major issue... Anyone tried?

| | | Theres a tunnel running part way under the Fraser river built in 1880 or somesuch. Take Argue off the Marry Hill bypass, and park in the parking lot on the left, the tunnel is on the shoreline. It's only accessible at low tide, as it floods at high tide, you can go a few hundred metres in and theres rooms and crevices to explore.

You have been to the Salt Peter mine on Bowen? It was a mine used to get salt Peter for making dynamite for the CPR, Union Steamship Company, about 100 years ago. Careful of that one shaft down!!! Still, it's a nice little small mine. Just don't eat to much in there Don't bother trying to mess with the chevron refinery...lots of security.

| | | Yessir I did.
Not yet actually, I went out there, but by the time I found the actual entrance (I don't own a GPS) the tunnel was well flooded. I'll be going back and snapping some pictures sometime in the next few weeks.

| | | I dont really think that tunnel is that old. We have to remember that the area on mary hill for years was a gravel quarry. I would be more inclined to say that it was something to do with that.

| | | Douglas tunnel off mary hill......Read the description, and think about it. Also try to find any other reference to it on the internet that is not just hearsay. What is the fraser river bank made of? How could you build a tunnel under it? If it floods at high tide, how does it ever drain? What is the tide range at that point? Put aside wishful thinking and read all the logs of the previous "finders" of the tunnel. Do all their stories make sense, and corroborate each others? If you have trouble finding more info on that tunnel, google for "Liars Cache" as that will have all the info you need. [last edit 8/31/2009 6:04 AM by Clutchy - edited 1 times]

| | | Yeah, Mr. Clutchy definitely seems to be right. I was just suspending any scepticism because the idea of exploring a tunnel under the Fraser seemed so awesome. By the way, other than just a google search what do you gents use to research locations? Or should I not be asking that?
All was not in vain though, I found a pipe that seems to lead for at least a few hundred metres into the water systems beneath Poco, it's just west of the wooden pier/lookout. I didn't go to far, as I had my other goal in mind. [last edit 9/6/2009 4:38 AM by Tessien - edited 1 times]

I'm not sure if they were the Saltpeter mines... They didn't go too deep. Only maybe 100 feet tops. They were level the whole way, too. Just some small tunnels on a hill in Bluewater. If there's another mine other than that one I'd love to find it! Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be possible. It looks so cool, though! Especially at night from across the water to see it all lit up! I'd still like to try my luck at finding the tunnel under Capitol Hill that was mentioned earlier.

didn't know there was anything worthwhile in poco. though there has to be something disused/abandoned along the Kingsway...

| | | Posted by SteamPunk I miss abandonments. *sigh* New stuff just doesn't feel the same. I don't like the sterile feeling of new concrete.
|
I agree whole heartedly. I've never found much fun in most new structures, or places under construction. No history and no feeling in them...
