| | Old Stern wheelers In Dawson City, Yukon, Canada < on 5/21/2009 12:26 AM >
| | | On a recent work trip to Dawson City, Yukon I was able to take the time to go visit three (a forth is deeper in the woods) old Stern wheeler boats that used to ply the Yukon River. These three were pulled ashore one winter back in the 50's and were left to the elements. They are easily accessible from the Yukon River Campground with a short stroll down the river bank. The pictures were taken with my cell. They are of fairly decent quality. (I am NOT a photographer) Enjoy

| | | Here is a link that would show what they would have looked like. http://www.thecana...rams=A1ARTA0007679 As for the one in the woods. Its in the same shape as these. These boats, or whats left of them. Get buried in snow and ice every year so they take quite a beating. Cheers, NorthOf60

| | | Wow, those stern wheelers have decayed a bunch in 14 years. When I was a kid they were mostly intact and walkable. You could even get to the pilot houses on a few of them. So does anyone have any recent pictures of the Canol Road?

Dawson City is UE heaven. The north preserves everything. If you're ever in Yukon drive right through Whitehorse and check it out. Here's Gold Dredge No. 4 which carved out the landscape. It stands seven stories tall and was half buried in mud until it was restored and opened as a historical site.
Here's the SS Keno pulled up on the waterfront
The whole town is a historic site and looks like a western.
