| | | With tried with our 18 month old and she would scream and scream if we put her on the toilet. If we left her diaper off, she would pee on the floor and she would go into a closet to hide-a-poo. We would only attempt for a day to train her, and fearing the negative experience would do more damage then good, we would return to our regular diaper routine. We would attempt again every 8 or 9 days, with the same results. We would give her a treat if she sat quietly on the toilet, even if she didn't pee (she never would). This went on for months, but we just stayed patient. She is now 25 months old and about 4 weeks ago decided that she would like to wear panties instead of a diaper. Within four days, after lots of celebrating and treats, her entire daytime routine is on the toilet only. It took about 2-3 weeks for her to start pooping on the toilet, so we had a few accidents in her panties. That has now resolved itself, however we have had a few pee accidents in the last 4 weeks, but not many. We even take her out with panties on now (we bring a potty in the car and a change of clothes) She still wears a diaper to bed, but we encourage her to take it off and go to the toilet, she has only done that a couple of times. We make her pee before and after sleeping. The other trick we use is a variety of treats, she has a choice after she pees of a marshmellow, a small chocolate, a small cookie, swedish berry, gummy, or sugar candy. And she gets to have several treats after she has a poop on the toilet. We also reward her older sister with the same choice of a treat if she helps or encourages her little sister with potty training, that has been a huge help in our training.
