| | Ladder Guards < on 2/11/2009 12:06 AM >
| | | Wow, I've been running into these damn things everything. They block off the steps to the ladder and there real sons of bitchs to climb over. Im proud to say theres yet to have been a ladder guard to stop me, but damn these are MORE than an inconvience. I just finished climbing up one bigger than the one seen in the above photo to get to a roof only to find NOTHING. Anyone els have any experiences with these little devils.

| | | All the time man, and I hate them like you wouldn't believe. How do you climb them? I normally go around the side of the ladder guard, put my foot on the highest rung I can find, and then kinda like...jump up? And try to grab the top of the ladder guard, and then hang on with my hands, pull myself up, and do my best to move my feet up in the limited space behind the guard. Sadly, I've got pretty big feet so it always takes me a little bit to get it done right.

| | | The straps holding the guard to the tank (usually watertowers when I run into these) just turn into a ladder in those cases. Don't try reaching through the mesh, even if you don't fall and break a finger it still hurts like a mofo.

| | | I usually just fly up to the top of the ladder. I dont even have to climb. Yea those ladder things dont stop me either. If youre in pairs you can have the other person boost you up and then pull them up. Or find an object to create a little step for you to get a higher reach on. Thats what i do most of the time if i cant find a way to reach it. Nothing ever stops me, not even solid smooth walls.

| | | I usually just wall run up and grab onto the rungs, but if the protector is loose it makes a lot of noise...

| | | Awesome. Also, I never considered the wallrunning thing, that's a pretty good idea. And I've got some pictures of a pretty vicious ladder guard I found last night trying to explore a water tower, I'll put them up in a bit. [last edit 2/14/2009 3:41 PM by denryuu - edited 1 times]

| | | What really sucks is when you have to climb stacked railroad ties and find the bottom lock is open *Yay!* and then climb 100ft to the top of a grain elevator to find the top is locked *Fuck!*.

The wall running is reserved for ninjas only, chance are if your not a ninja your going to end up hurting yourself not to menchan the great amount of noise this makes. I have ran up a wall and grabbed onto one of the ladder steps but its just so unnesary and make more noise than a cat in a bathtub full of pots and pans. So I'll probably head out sometime this weekend and get a clip of me climbing a ladder guard as I said earlier.

| | | I can wallrun pretty well, but yeah, noise would be a big issue. I've used it to get to ladders on the sides of big brick buildings a few times, though. Flat metal would definitely be another story.. Anyway, here we go.
It's about 10 feet off the ground. Any ideas on how I would deal with that?

| | | Stepladder with a rope attached to your belt. Once you climbed up, pull the ladder up with you so you can use it to climb down...Think first, though.

Wow, if they spend that amount of money on buying that contraption there must be somthing worth seeing up there, or I could be wrong. Half the fun of exploring is getting past little road blocks like this. Becuase I've never ran into on of these, I cant really give you any advice, but I'd love to come across one them cuase I always like a challenge ;)

| | | Just an hour or two ago, I was pulled up by security while photographing the ladder guard on an expensive piece of infrastructure. I commented that I had no intention of climbing, and figured you couldn't get up there anyway, due to the ladder guard. The security guy said "oh, you'd be surprised what those little pricks can do", and proceeded to explain exactly how to circumvent the guard and climb the thing
