I agree wholeheartedly. I have multiple (12+?) tattoos and none of them are flash. I always work with my artist(s) to get the piece I want. It's been said before, but I'll say it again as a word of advice:
A cheap tattoo will not be a good tattoo. Any work you get will be with you for life and it's worth going to the best, because they almost always provide the best. a professional should be happy to draw something up for you (even if they have no idea what Cthulu is). Bring in as many source pics as possible and make sure the final product is exactly what you want. When I first started getting tattoos I would be hesitant to ask my artist to alter a drawing they spent hours on, but in the end, it's their job and you only have one shot at getting it right.
