| | | Yeah, everclear at 190 proof is illegal depending on what state you live in, which is weird, but then again your drinking age is 21 too, lol. And I'm not one for the home brewed booze, not only does it usually taste like shit, get chunks after it settles, make your house smell like shit... So on and so forth. I'd much rather just go out and buy it. And by the way, is absinthe made with real worm wood legal in the states yet? A friend of mine said it was, but when I checked only the really high alc/vol absinthe was legal.

| Wormwood is in fact legal now. It turns out that absinthe never really had to much wormwood to begin with. I'd have to find the article again, someone somewhere got their hands on a original bottle of the stuff and ran tests on it. The stuff of yore has just as much wormwood as today's absinthe, but the alcohol content was much higher.

| | | Somewhere in Memphis there is a bedroom whose carpet will always smell like anise from a night of binging on Czech absinthe. Woke up in a puddle of my own bile after ten shots in an hour. Only years later can I even stomach anything with that licorice-anise flavor. On a chemical note, although I have no problem believing that heavy metal poisoning could cause hallucination, the official word years ago was that Thujone was responsible for these effects. Nonetheless, I am inclined to believe that the hallucinogenic effects were derived from the combination of the green fairy with a fair amount of opium, either eaten or smoked, as the combination was often practiced in opium dens. I can say for sure, I tried real absinthe before it was legal in any form in the U.S., and four shots, done the traditional way, over sugar on a slotted spoon, produced little more than the typical stupor associated with drunkenness. After being told later that one had to binge on it to get the hallucinogenic effects, I tried 10 shots and got only alcohol poisoning. The moral of the story? If you like anise, you'll probably like absinthe, but only in the same quantities that you would normally consume high proof alcohol. Anything verging on binging is just self-destructive. Also, Everclear is legal in California, just hard to find. My girl uses it to make Limoncello at home, and has bought a number of 190 proof bottles here in the bay area. Why anyone would want to drink it straight is beyond me. Aside from infusions of fruit and sugar, it's only use is spiking punches and mixing with schnapps for mean shots, if you ask me.

| I've been to many, many liquor stores. I have yet to see a bottle of 190. 151 all the time, Ledgers has it, Cask has it. As I said, it's illegal in cali.
