Uknown gun emplacement?

Can anyone tell me about this gun emplacement, from what i know its the only such site around halifax that is unnamed and unaccesable to the public, its just past York redoubt on the grounds of the Navel Engineering School. i know in the nearby woods (between the site and York Redoubt) there are 4 oberservation bunkerss whihc are now covered in protective wooden "houses", i assume they are rang finding emplacements for the gun battery

That's the Sandwich Point Battery, just basically follow the path down past Practice Battery and you should see the parking lot for the naval school. The battery is on DND property though, there's barbed wire going all throughout the woods down by the school. And the parking lot has security cameras.

Here's a link to the thread on it before: http://www.uer.ca/...d=51015&currpage=9

My post is the second one down referring to the battery.

I was at Sandwich Point last week, the fence ends about 15 meters into the woods by the parking lot of the Naval Engineering building, not hard to get about after that, as long as you know which way your going, no paths that i could find anyway.

Did you manage to get to the battery though? It looked as if DND is using it for storage or something.

Already in, Navy doesn't get posted anywhere but Halifax or BC. NETP Training goes on down there, Damage control/Fire fighting and an advanced engineering school.

There wasn't much of anything at sandwich point when i was there. A tarp covering a scorched gas turbine, and some other rusted mechanics.

I know this is an old thread, but the leaves are gone and i have time for more exploring. Question, does anyone know if there is anything underground at the sandwich point battery?, or is it only the above ground stuff thats still around? I know access to the gun pits are difficult because its on DND land but im just curious because generally there would be at least a subterranean bunker for ammo storage. Working at my desk makes me curious.

It's probably very similar to Connaught Battery, to the north of YR. Above ground gun emplacements with four independent magazine bunkers below each. I don't think there are any actual tunnels apart from a former passage down to the magazines themselves.

It's very possible, but not likely. The only place I found (as well as tribeachpunk) that might be a former access point is down over the hill where those block-like things are.

I've got one (and an oscillating magnetron too) but I'm fucked if I'm bringing it on a plane.

Sorry boys!

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

No worries, we'll just commandeer one from B.I.O. I'm sure they won't mind.
