| | | I'm new to the site, so forgive me if I've posted in the wrong section or I'm posting a place that is already known. I visited St John's Catholic Church in Bomarton, TX. It's about 3 hours west of Dallas, on HWY 277. The church is in really good shape for being built in 1910 and the owner's, out of Vernon, TX, have a sign in the vestibule asking that you not trash the place. The front doors are unlocked and you can walk right in. I have another Church that I want to post but I'll wait and see if this post gets moved or anything else. How would I add this to the database if it's not already there?

| | | Wow...a pre-Vatican II altar! Most Catholic churches in the US remodeled and did away with this by the late 1960s.

| | | Very cool place indeed. I don't really feel like it shouldn't be left unlocked all the time, but if the owners are cool with it, what are you gonna do? I'd like to see more pictures of the place... maybe some without the fish eye effect... not that their not cool pictures, because they are. Very nice pictures, for sure... but I'd like to see some normal pictures, just to get a feel of what the place looks like.
Oh, welcome to UER... and you did post in the correct forum. [last edit 10/26/2008 5:17 AM by Happiedaze - edited 1 times]

| | | I kinda think it's generally a good idea to do exactly what the owners have done here, especially since it's such a remote, unguarded location. If you lock the door, it's just a matter of time before vandals break it down. And the idea of simply asking visitors to not trash the place is brilliant. Sure, it may not work, but it evidently has so far, and it sure can't hurt to ask. And best of all, easy access for those of us who would explore the place! By the way...nice light-painting! Musta had a pretty good teacher, eh?

I figure boarding up an abandonment (without some sort of active security) is like locking the doors on your convertible. If someone really wants in, wouldn't you rather they open the door than cut through the roof?
