| | | New Feature: User directory by location? < on 1/28/2004 1:04 AM >
| | | Maybe it already exists on this site and I missed it, but I would like to see a directory of users by location. Part of the fun of this whole thing is to hook up with people with a similar interest who happen to be in your neighborhood (or maybe in a town you will be passing through sometime soon). I spend a lot of time looking at the location next to users' names for people in my neck of woods (I run searches with my state/nearby towns first, of course), but a database or user directory would put everything in one place. Naturally, the feature would have an "opt out" box on the profile page. Thoughts?

| | | Probably a dumb question, but where is the "User" page? I see on-line users, but that's all, and that location tab doesn't re-sort the list.

| | | Right below online users on the main forum page. About a third of users have put in location info, but a good portion is cryptic or wrong. http://www.uer.ca/forum_memberlist.asp?fid=1

| | | Thanks for the link; that's what I was looking for. Still, I think the site could improve on it, don't you. I mean, look at the location database. It is arranged in hierarchical fashion so that you can "zoom in" to your location. Similarly, it is much more systematic. Of course, I'm all for letting people customize their profile so they can say they're from Oz or Neverland, but I would like "one-stop-shopping" for other adventurers in my area rather than scrolling through lists of town after town and searching for "Texas," "TX," or "Tex" every so often for new members. Something for the already overworked admin to add to their "to do" list.

| | | I'm going to make a much better version of the member list; the current version was really only programmed as a rudimentary placeholder until such time that a new one could be created.

Get rid of the hundreds of spam accounts and accounts that haven't been used for six months or more; they irritate the hell out of me to have to scroll through them all. ~D

| | | Agreed - setting up a private forum by scrolling through umpteen-thousand names is annoying as hell.
