I was posing a question, but your version is FAR funnier. I would pay to see that, in fact. And yes, this thread is approaching CRITICAL WIN LEVEL-1!!!11!!1!!!
Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

I'm sure he wasn't expecting drug smugglers. It was a normal trip in a rural area that happened to go wrong, but he had a weapon, so he still has a wife? Something like that? IMHO, it's impossible to make blanket statements about carrying weapons because each environment is completely different. You used the example of Iraq, or the wilderness, etc. Carry em if you need em.

Sure, but 95% of people who carry them are incapable of making this decision correctly.

Tell me Jonsered, how should Octane fight off a drug smuggling bear, in an urban environment... with a set of chucks?? Again, may I ask also, what was so wicked awesome that you risked your life and your wife to explore? It must have been... fucking outstanding! Chris...

I was simply responding to the folks who said those who carry weapons are losers. I personally don't carry nunchuks. Octane made his choice, and I'm fine with him living his own life. As for myself, you don't get it. We were just walking in the desert, looking for a mine. I never said it was awesome, rad, or totally far out. It was just a mine. We were minding our own business, and presto, here come the dopers. I didn't set out to be Rambo, I simply wasn't going to be a victim.
I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread. |

It's your own damned fault. You shouldn't be walking around in areas that are not under police and/or camera surveillance and protection. You have no right to protection and preservation without the authority of the state's representatives.

| | | Let's recap the first post of this thread: Now that I have started to go on U.E. missions again after a year and a half hiatus, I have noticed some alarming changes. I bumped into some other UEers on a few recent missions, as did a friend of mine on some other missions, and both of us noted that more and more UEers are arming themselves, especially on night missions. Personally, on night missions, I carry a nunchaku, to be used in extreme danger. But, the weapons of choice I have seen lately are pellet handguns, snub rifles, and my friend even saw a 9mm handgun. One dude even had a flaregun in a holster. I don't really agree with firearms being brought along on UE missions. I mean, one accidental startle, and things could get messy real fast. Has anyone else noticed this, and/or carried a weapon on a UE mission? -Octane Let's not get too drawn into land pirates or being chased by tigers, neither of these scenario were posed by the OP. The question as I see it isn't 'should I take a weapon to defend against real threats' (like the ones you outline Jonsered) but more 'should I take a weapon to beat up the baddies and be a true UE ninja super-hero' OR 'should I take a weapon because everyone else seems to be' ? And what I'm saying is 'your more likely to just get yourself hurt'. And really, that would be OK too. I can stand to see Octane get hurt. Chris...

Wait what? Of course people have a right to "protection and preservation" outside the state's reach. People have a right to defend themselves anywhere...which is why he brought a gun.

Agreed. There's more than one way to get hurt too. A mandatory five is a long time to enjoy the pain of one's stupidity. Or what if you somehow cause the death or maiming of a innocent bystander, maybe even a Jerry's kid. Recently I saw someone who's a member here post a pic of a "bad ass" associate with a lead pipe in their hand at a well known spot. Prolly the same asshole that zippoed that site recently too. It's old scool.

Wow. Wishing that someone you don't know at all gets hurt. Who peed in your cornflakes anyway? Last I checked, I haven't offended you in anyway. Also.....I only bring the 'chucks on night missions when I am alone. Daytime missions, and/or missions when there are eexplorers with me, I am unarmed. My tripod is enough to hurt someone if I had to. Cheers. -Octane

"is that weed?" "no sir" "well let me just check that" *FAINT*
so far so good.. the hard part is dragging him back to the cruiser and locking the door what with being cuffed on the ground because of the uzi and all
I will defeat that which was once untouchable only so that I may now move on |

What kind of barbaric place are you people living in? Some of the people on here sound like they are in a Mad Max movie. I can understand carrying a gun in Iraq, but in your own country? That's when you know it's time to move. I can tell you I would not be urban exploring if it meant the possibility of encountering gangs of armed bandits.
