| | | Don't get me wrong, I think Max is one of the premier explorers to be involved in this hobby. Whether or not he goes by Max action or something else though, shouldn't mean he would get cut more slack than any other member if they post shit. That said, a certain amount of shit is funny and needed, but anything can be taken to far...

Well, doesn't Max need to actually pick a name for anything to be done here ? Or did you mean he should be called Bueller ?

I just want to see some progress towards resolution now that it appears the course of action has been rather unanimously chosen by the community at large. Is a little uncertainty, a little safe chaos, so hard for rigid minds to deal with? If I want to be whoever I want to, and change weekly, who GIVES A SHIT? WHY WHY WHY does it matter? Agh!

| | | To reply to the idea of a list of previous user-names on someone's post, I think it would be a good idea if, for a month, a little thing appeared below someone's avatar pic that said, "Previous Incarnation:" and simply listed the most recent name the user used. Oh, and maybe a two-month requirement for each name used. I think this would keep confusion to a minimum without restricting the right to change user names. It's not hard. And to Av and Max....Weren't you going to take this to PM's or something? C'mon, I just wanted to speak up on the topic of the thread, and I had to just jump to the end cuz you two started going at it. I might have missed some relevant on-topic shit (cuz yes, I AM too lazy to check the begining of each post to see if y'all are just bitching, or actually talking.) I think the rivalry is funny, but now it's getting really serious. I don't care who started it. I just want to post, and read interesting posts. And see cute pics of the chics who post here. And bullshit about stupid stuff in the "Other" forum. And enjoy exploring with others who see in it the same thing I do. And...........

| | | I think the idea of a minimun amount of time you should keep your user name is a great idea. As far as the list of older names, I thought that was already in place. On the users profile page it has a "name history" list.

| | | Geez, I can't believe that some people have spent soooooo much time bantering this issue. Really, what's in a name anyways? If you need a policy, then implement one that limits the number of times you can change your name for a given period of time. Should you be a shit disturber, it will only be a matter of time before somebody recognizes your style under any name you use anyways. The reason we are here is to UE anyway, so let's get at it and back to business shall we.

| | | Re: Changing user names <Reply # 37 on 1/26/2004 4:09 PM >
| | | Personally, some of the name changing was annoying. I tend to view the name I use as a part of my identity. I stick with it, and enjoy the good and suffer the bad that goes with that name. As a mod, it has been a bit of pain at times, when I see a post that I would normally delete by some nimrod I've never seen here before, but then see that the nimrod has some stars and has been here awhile... Then I end up leaving the post (in a lot of cases), once I see who it was, because I realize their sense of humour. It doesn't mean garbage posts are allright for establisj\hed members, but in general I'll let much more go from a person that contributes to the board than to some newbie that starts out with crap and hasn't contributed a damn thing...

First off, I ain't no mod, so I don't "feel your pain" when you gotta police the boards. I realize this. And anywhere, nimrods will be irksome. But... if Max AKA Ben AKA Little-Boy-Blue wants to change his name, I don't have a problem with that. I'll not change mine because of your very reason about identity. But there ought to be room here for those who think different than us on this point. I researched the trash talk that went on with Max, Asher, and Av, (and maybe Rob?) and conclude that Av has a seriously difficult time managing with people who do not personally adopt his constrictive views. The whole thing was nothing more than a clash of temperaments, not brazen rule-breaking. Av adopted the limit-name-change policy after the fact, and after he got personally irritated. Decisions made that way are rarely worth anything. Since it "is" an identity issue, let us use it as we see fit.

Max wasn't ever Ben, Jim (now Up-High) was Ben. Ben was Max until it was changed by someone else. A few other people have also been Max.
