| | | Posted by logtec OK... SORRY! Were not all "pro-stars" here! I'm not a professional photographer, i dont know all the proper terminology! Not everyone has countless hours to stare at a computer screen drooling, then getting a lil tingle in their pants when you find that someone has made a minor mistake! |
Well, if that's all I did with my life, one would assume that I would have no idea about backlighting or anything else to do with photography. But since I spent six hours underground on Saturday night, I know enough to be naturally suspicious of any "explorer" claiming to be backlighting things (unless their name is dsankt).
Back-lite... Back-ground-light... Back-light... whatever, the point is- LIGHT "back" or "behind" - "me" or "the subject" it doesn't matter! |
Well, no, it's a completely different effect depending on which direction your light is pointed. It does matter quite a lot.
If they didn't let new people joint this site it wouldn't be what it is today! |
Quoted for truth.

| | | well if you think "which way to point a light" is the only thing to exploring... like i said the only difference between you and I is TIME spent in front of a computer, a URE keychain and knowing the proper terminology for pointing a light... Is vanishing point your website? if it is, honestly you've got some beautiful pictures!(no joke) and i can see why your so upset... altho the DRAIN terminology isn't up to par! you see i've been a licenced plumber in the city of toronto for the last 11 years, some of the terminology could be corrected. if stomping around in sewage is your idea of a perfect saturday night(sanitary or storm drains make sure your shots are up to date!), then thats great, its what YOU like to do, to each their own! i get paid to do that all week long, and I prefer to spend my weekends above ground in more of a social setting. listen i dont want to argue with you about this, neither of us is gunna win... this isn't high school. this site isn't here for people to bicker back and forth, nobodys perfect... your the bigger man here! | | | Edited 10 times, lol?! Hey dude, just a bit of advice: This community is pretty big on respect, manners, humility, and stuff like that. I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing you're probably already rubbing some people the wrong way. (Or at least showing that you're maybe wont to do so in the future.) A sense of etiquette, and proper social comportment--both in real life, and online--is at least as important here, as any 1,000,000 candlepower spotlight, or $10 dust mask. Really, it's in your best interests to understand this, and conduct yourself accordingly. Just a friendly attempt at an early course correction for ya. Take it for what it's worth.

The only time I've found a dust mask useful, is when I was crawling around in the ceilings at school. The first day I was blowing dust out of my nose all night. The next day with the dust mask, I was fine.

How'd we get here, and how are we getting out of here?!
| | | Re: UE Basic Equipment... <Reply # 29 on 3/11/2008 5:12 PM >
| | | I ask this question, what are we considering a "dusk mask"? If we are talking a disposable P100, great that does good, but if your going to be doing this, why not buy a P100?! I own one, but rarely wear it. I wear it when there is a lot of asbestos or other hazards, but rarely beyond that. As for back light with a 2 million CP spot light, this isn't "technically" back lighting, but it's close.
Honestly that didn't turn out nearly as cool as I had hoped... But you get the gist....

You just need to crop that image better that's all, the mattress there is just distracting. Its like you didn't focus in on your subject- rather just took a snapshot.

I COMPLETELY agree, and would have taken this shot vertically if it weren't that I was cheap and using an old video tripod that won't allow my to tilt vertically. While a new tripod (or a new head) is on my list of things to buy, I don't have the money... yet...

I hate to make the point, but the point of posting this image here was to show what a spotlight can do as a back light.... So we'll ignore my complete inability as a photographer....

Ahh no problem, its just a pretty neat image you would have there. cheap tripods suck! I had one for quite a while, but I am very satisfied with the one I have now, I even got the head replaced when it stopped working hassle free from the company. Thanks for the compliment on the photo... I totally stole the idea from another explorer.... well parts of it... Anyways, it's not that my tripod is cheap, but it's just meant for a different purpose...

| | | i prefer to explore during the day, because thats when the best lighting is (for the most part), i think that some people go crazy with all their equipment. all i normally bring is my camera, camera bad, and my manfrotto tripod( which is metal and heavy enough), and a small flashlight i have had to run from security so many times, and the more stuff you have on/with you, the harder it is to get away. thats just my 2 cents, but bring whatever/as much as u like.

When your snot turns colors.. thats a good sign you should wear a mask. Iron dust turns your snot black, btw. And I tend to be a pocket-maglight / camera / gloves / boots / knife (as a tool) type guy. And the camera is hit-or-miss. Then again, if its drains then its going to need more lights, maybe a skateboard / scooter, if its in the middle of nowhere then water / tripod / dust mask?, if its active then a credibility prop. It's entirely situationally dependent. I just tailor my kit to allow me to climb freely / run if I need to. Edit: And rope. You always need some stupid f*cking rope. Hey sound, Was the lighting in the picture straight on or at an angle? If you try it at like a 45 degree or so angle up and back from the statue you might get more framing of shoulders/head/etc. (not sure if you did that or not but i guess it couldn't hurt to put out there anyway) but nice picture all the same. I usually bring a good LED flash lite, and a couple extra batteries, camera, gloves, a bottle of water, and I'm heading out to buy a mask later this week and some filters for if/when i need it. Thats usually enough for me.
