| | | Well I was more talking about this kind of tower, where it contains a staircase inside them... Random pic taken from google : [last edit 1/24/2008 1:37 AM by Q1W2E3R4 - edited 1 times]

| | | Posted by GC Intercept I would not recommend popping the lid off any old water tank or reservoir as it may be contaminated with Legionella pneumophila of "Legionnaire's Disease" fame if it still contains airborne water droplets. It always seems to break out at catchpenny holiday camps round here.

weird it only seems to breed in old age homes here... This is a stellar shot..
as well as copy6's....
I know you guys must like to climb, but geez, that certainly is one helluva way up, without gear (if you did it as such). [last edit 1/24/2008 5:35 AM by Air - edited 2 times]

| | | Here's a story and skinny on water tower interiors for those who have not yet explored 'em . . .
Lovely exterior pic
Closer . . . oh look, someone forgot to lock up . . .
Hey ! A blue print ! Bottom part of the tower looks devoid of anything interesting . . .
. . . And confirmed. Fairly boring inside. This was taken half way up the longest ladder I ever did climb.

| | | Ive been inside abandoned water towers and full but abandoned water tanks. Being inside an empty water tower is a strange feeling, matter as fact I cant explain it so go do it.

| | | So thats whats on the inside of one of them. I've always wondered.
I'm spinning counter-clockwise, each turn robs the planet of angular momentum, slowing its spin the tiniest bit, lengthening the night, pushing back the dawn, giving me a little more time here with you. |

| | | I could understand climbing one, but not quite entering one. And the main difficulty I can see would be the fact that climbing a water tank usually precedes vandalizing it.

| | | I've been up the outside of one a couple times, even looked in the top. It's a spooky feeling, knowing that if you fall in there's no way out except for the drain, or the 3' x 3' door you are looking in, which is, say, 12' above the water. 12' of smooth metal. The views are great and it's an easy climb. As far as antennas - I asked the same questions a year or two ago. Story seems to be: stay away from the front of 'em and you'll be fine.

| | | Kinda off subject but I always wondered if water towers could be penetrated with a gun shot - I thought the metal would be way too thick. Turns out they can: http://www.snowflakesinhell.com/?p=2293
