| | | Ok, I know this is gonna sound crazy, stupid, reckless, and completely out of my mind, but I'm actually gonna try to access the tunnel complex under downtown Hali via Fort Charlotte... Any advice from anyone?

| | | well one, i hope you have official access to the island, cause that's a pretty big fine (possibly jail time?). two, don't do anything stupid. but my guess is if there is actually a tunnel there, it's caved in by now. OH, and watch out for the snakes. [last edit 4/25/2007 3:35 AM by darbycrashin - edited 1 times]

| | | lol I figured they'd pluck you out of the water before you got close to George's Island. Think about how many people are monitoring the harbour for all the different government and commercial interests that operate there.. I'm sure many of them are obligated to report a nutcase in a canoe landing on the island.

| | | Yeah, that never happened, the guy I was supposed to go with went to RMC...so using his canoe was out of the question, besides, I've pretty much given up on that approach...I'm gonna try a different route. Don't know where I'll gain access yet though.

| | | Tunnels under Halifax? I've seen some of the new ones, to the drainage systems I presume, but I didn't know about old ones.

No, not to George's Island, I meant gain access from somewhere in the city core. And Blackbird; the tunnels go from Citadel Hill to the downtown core (can't remember which streets they're under; it's in another post) to George's Island.

| | | My father told me about them just today, but are you sure that they still exist? When was the last time someone went in one or at least saw them?

| | | There are some pics that Tribeachpunk posted in another thread showing the basic layout of the tunnels, and in one of them says in 1997 they were explored by an author or something like that, but you hear about them all the time; whether it be a couple years ago or a decade ago, fact remains that they're still there. Question is: what does it take to gain access (officially)

| | | i posted those pics from a book, a tunnel to George's is still a rumour, it has never been confirmed. The tunnels do for sure go from Citadel Hill to the waterfront-that is what was shown in the pictures.. check them out again here http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=32415 [last edit 11/23/2007 12:46 AM by darbycrashin - edited 1 times]

| | | What peaks my interest the most is what Historian124 said about my post on the second page. Once exams are done with I might make a trip to the archives, or library or something and see what can be dug up. Then make a trek to the scotia square area, see what I can find. When I find out when I go I'll post it here, it'd be nice to have a few people to help research. [last edit 11/26/2007 3:57 PM by Recoil - edited 1 times]

| | | Re-reading that thread reminded me of the mysterious door in the bottom level of the staircase. Here, I found a map on Halifax Development's page for Scotia Square, located at the following address: http://www.halifax...ilding=scotia_mall I've added a green check box to the staircase in question on the image attached below:
Just so everyone has their bearings, unit 0170 is the Scotiabank, 0225 is the dollar store and 0230 is the gym. The hallway next to the gym is the tunnel that leads to the WTCC. Unit 0210 appears to be disused, and is more than likely where the door in the parkade leads to. There used to be a Woolco department store in the mall. I have no idea where it was located, but if it located what is now units 0210 and 0230, then that now boarded up entrance off the parkade was probably an entrance directly into to Woolco.

| | | Me and N250cc were there on Saturday, and we didn't see any "mysterious" doorways/doors on the bottom level of the parkade. We were in there a good half hour before we left.

| | | I'm not really sure how accurate Historian's post was about the tunnel that reaches george's. I mean he posted once and hasn't been online since that post. I'm not completely dismissing a chance of there being a tunnel from the mainland to george's.. but i still think at this point, it's still speculation. If Historian is still around and has more evidence, I'm all for hearing about it.

| | | Well, we do know there is a tunnel that connects the Halifax club, Seahorse and possibly the dennis building. I have noticed lately the gate between city hall and the grand parade on barrington has been left open. Any secrets to this possibly down there?
