| | | | Mid-century modernism? < on 11/7/2007 3:23 PM >
| | | I'm a fan of mid-century modernism architecture design. Has anyone come across abandoments in this style? I think the combination of modern design and yet decay could be interesting.

| | | i have a place in mind, but it was JUST mothballed, so no decay yet. it was designed to resemble an "organic engine", and has long sweeping hallways and wings almost entirely made of glass and a large central courtyard. i was shot down once already for permission, and considering what the company did there, i'm less than anxious to try it "the easy way" just yet.

| | | I just shot this last week and haven't posted it on my flickr stream, but here you go:
Yermo, California, east of Barstow just off Interstate 15. California is loaded with abandoned Googie.

| | | Check out the Glass Bank in Cocoa Beach in the UDB. It's been heavily modified through the years, but some of the architectural touches are still obvious.

| | | Gotta love Googie and all that cool architecture from the 60's! Not many places left around here, sadly.

| | | PHOENIX TROTTING PARK 2000 Built by east coast gambling interests and closed after only 2 seasons, this early 60s Googie masterpiece has stood abandoned for over 30 years. Home to thousands of pigeons. 160T film, 4 minute exposure, full moon. Available light only.
ESCALATOR 2000 The entrance vestibule of the spectacular Phoenix Trotting Park. Abandoned for decades, it has been the location for many films and the scene of many crimes. It's a long walk up that escalator . . . 160T film, 4 minute exposure, full moon, red-gelled strobe flash.
