| | | Asylum/Barn Pics...More confused than ever... < on 9/10/2007 3:37 AM >
| | | Ok, I found the cord for the initial outside pics I took, and got to explore the place today. Well, to answer the question as to what this place was used for...I have no idea. It belongs to the state and is on the land for the mental asylum, and is even used as a storage place now. But stores some...unusual items. (ie: at LEAST a hundred portable DOG KENNELS??!?!?!) You'll also see what I guess to be a conveyor line on the ceiling. I really don't know, its all strange. There's more pics, but these were the best...at least I thought so. Have fun, and maybe you know more than I do. PS - In one of the pics you'll see that the building was built in 1923, and 'named' after a doctor. So I'm guessing it had some original purpose and importance.
Ok, why would ANYONE need so many kennels, unless your an animal shelter???

Only two toilets in the entire place...not that I'm counting ;)

| | | Very nice place. Thanks for the pictures. I'm not sure what it was. I might venture a guess, but I'm not sure.

| | | When these large hospitals were built most of them had working farms, it was used as a form of therapy for the people staying there. The doctor guy was in incharge of the hospital at the time this barn/out building was built so his name went on the corner stone. Note the "Supt" at the end of his name. And last but not least, I would bet those dog crates have been sitting since katrina possibly ? They ended up shipping pets a pretty long distance after the storm and this was just a good empty barn to store stuff in.

| | | I especially like the generators (-?), the gauge closeup and the hand cart. As I was scrolling through them--not quickly mind you, but carefully evaluating each one--I noticed the one picture with the four light fixtures and the fan... If you scroll just right, and crop out the top two fixtures, it looks like a face. I dig the double entendre photo. Nice work, BTW.

| | | Good find, man. Those dog kennels sort of look like a pet carrier I owned at one time. If they are anything like mine, they should have a handle on top so you can carry it.

AHAHAHAHAHA. xD Nice. That's quite the place, though, nice find! I haven't a clue what it might have been used for either -- though the asylum farm idea makes a lot of sense. I have read about how various asylums (in the days when they still thought being sent to an asylum was a matter of great shame) would run farms, and those in the asylum were used as labour. I can't think of anything else ...

| | | as far asylum farms, I've seen one or two other ones here in MO. The reason why its a farm it so those that are not deeply unstable can have space to get out and move around without causing danger to those around them. there was one that I've researched and found that actually had the patients farm to make money to help fund the hospital.

| | | Well I'm gone for two days and it seems that the mystery, is no longer a mystery. That saddens me, but the knowledge of knowing that this is a Nuclear Dog Factory, or at least once was is worth it. Who'd ever thought that a conveyor, a dahli, a bunch of kennels, and a few other things here and there is enough equipment for a nuclear reactor!!!! Haha, well anyways, all of those theories that everyone was kind enough to give sound pretty close. Maybe I should just call the Hospital and ask them. But thanx to all for contributing. As for how I got in there, I just knocked on the door and was let inside by this cute florescent green 30 ft tall 2 headed poodle. ;) I'll send you a message Sephyz0r and let you know.
