| | | | a little blue house < on 7/26/2007 12:19 PM >
| | | I saw this house by the road...
An army of mutant spiders was guarding the perimeter...
I was kind of disappointed by the inside...
Nothing was more than a few years old, I found documents dating from 2004, including a frozen chicken...
Heres the outside again...

And that spider is just ... ooky.

Oh, the whole kitchen was unbearable, maggots and flies everywhere. There was also a large chest freezer that wasn't open, could you imagine the horrors of what might be in there?

I love those spiders; we get them around here every summer. They're great to photograph because they're so big. They're harmless but they got cool tricks. They bust me up. They will vibrate their web if frighten, or to lure moths into their web. Once when trying to pick up a big one playing dead on the ground so I could get her in the open to better photograph her, she went from balled up to jumping directly at my out reaching hand! They have excellent eyesight and can easily jump at least 6 inches straight up! She hit my hand, but didn't try to bite instead simply dropped back into the grass to make her escape. Crafty girl, by the time I regained my composure, she was gone. To spite their massive fang-bearing appendages, or chelicerae, these spiders rarely if ever bite humans, and don't nest inside homes. The perfect spider.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

The only perfect spider is a perfectly dead spider. Since being out here in Arizona I've crossed paths with a rattle snake and a tarantula. While the tarantula was interesting to try to photograph, I'd take the snake any day. I hate those creepy bastards.

Those are pretty straight forward; what you see is what you get. No problems, and they provide an important service. The brown recluse on the over hand is a total fuck job. They nest in houses and will bite you in your sleep. You be better off being bitten by a tarantula any day rather than these bastards.

| | | We have brown recluse spiders here in Texas, and your right, they are bad news. It's not a degree of which is the most dangerous to me, it's just that fact that they are spiders. Straight from the pits of hell and I hate them. Anything that walks on 8 legs and has 8 eyes has to be fucked up.

Wow,that's funny Raticus, because I feel the same way about rats,I'm absolutely terrified of them. Spiders, they creep me out too but not nearly as much as a rat or a mouse.

OH my GOD! They can JUMP? Holy crap. If I had known that, I never would have gotten this shot...
Because there is no way in Hell I would have stood that close to it if I had known they could jump. (Spiders are one of the few things that scare me about UE). Biters or not, that thing was creepy. I totally respected its space and privacy... just don't ever want to come across one ON me. *shudder*
I need to go shower now.

rarely bite? RARELY? I'm not taking a chance brother. Especially after ending up about 6 inches from one on accident. I wet myself a little I think.

The only reason she jumped was because I was pursing her. First she played dead, but seeing that ploy didn't work, she went to plan B; freak the sucker out! They look much more scary than they are, in fact they're rather fragile so care is needed when handling them.
Now here's my darling, the Assassin bug. They seem like they are slow, but they can flip that 1/4 inch long rostrum out to a 90 degree angle and drive it in so fast they catch house flies with it. If your unlucky enough to provoke one, it's said the bite is much worse than a bee sting as it can take up to 3 weeks to heal in some people. They inject digestive enzymes into their prey through it. Fortunately thy are very tolerant, my garden is full of them, in fact I encouraged their presence. They aren't aggressive to people or pets. The adults can can fly too. http://www.ivyhall...ECTS/assassin.html [last edit 7/30/2007 2:56 AM by blackhawk - edited 2 times]
