| | | | Mini houses... < on 6/7/2007 12:34 AM >
| | | This is somewhat of an extension of my previous post about the old antiques house I explored. Out back were these little houses. I have no clue what they were actually were for... I may go though and resize them all to 800x600. For a while I would shrink them down to 640x480, but that is a bit small now-of-days. I didn't really want to walk inside with them looking as rough as they did. Plus the smaller one farther down had TONS of crap in it. Old Xerox machines(well parts) laminaters, TVs, etc...

| | | These are Shotgun houses, built long and narrow and designed to fit two or more to a lot. Elvis was born in a similar house. There are quite a few of these still in use around the rural south. I know of about 10 in my home town.

| | | Long and narrow? Heh, they seem more square But I have no clue, you are probably correct. I have heard of shotgun houses, but never gave it much thought. Also realize right in front(well more Beside these) is a large house. In this picture, you can actually see one of the houses though a window. I didn't explore them too much, but yes, there's an exit sign on the little cabin.

Why would today be any different?

| | | Looks more like picker sheds... this from the girl that grew up amongst farms that imported "help". They have nothing really to them maybe a sink and toilet (if they're lucky) & area enough for a bed or two. VERY typical in tobacco/ apple/ potato areas... grew up with these dotted all over the place w/ most in the same condition-- they've been replaced by larger row houses to save costs.

| | | I like places like that. Did you get more of the insides? HMMM? old Xerox machines(well parts) laminators...... We still have alot of picker sheds around here, most though have been replaced with trailers.
A mirage is not an optical illusion. It is a real phenomenon, and one can take photographs of it. The interpretation of the image, however, is up to the fantasy of the human mind. |

| | | A shotgun house is a small home with all the rooms all in a row.
The name comes from the fact that if you fire a shotgun into the house the blast will go in the front door and out the back. Or the name could come from an african word meaning gathering place. I found this photo on the internet but it is pretty typical of their design.

No others inside I'm afraid. I came with a weak battery and forgot to grab my backup Plus I didn't really care to walk around those buildings too much. Nothing seemed too stable and I didn't know about snakes

Never gave the snake thing a thought. We have very few dangerous snakes here, just the yuck factor when it comes to them.

If I recall both had fairly cluttered floors. Perhaps if I went in with boots and a couple pairs of long pants At the time, though, I just had shoes and thin pants...
