| | | Don't use the flash!! It washes out colors, kills the natural shadows!!! If you have a cheapie point n shoot, get a cheapie tripod from ebay, experiment with the settings, you'll be a pro in no time

And incorrect. It's UER.CA not UER.COM (though the domain is also forwarded to .CA). I think you need more practice... study long exposure techniques.

| | | As said before: Need to work on composition (meaning don't always put the subject your shooting in the middle of the picture), flash, and work a little bit more on getting the focus near perfect - if your using a dslr. [last edit 6/2/2007 12:11 AM by Shr-eddie - edited 1 times]

| | | There are pictures and there are photographs.. These are pictures.. I used to be the same way before i got a digital SLR... Point and shoot just doesnt cut it when you are trying to show the mood of a building... When i look at a "photograph" i can feel the atmosphere almost smell the decay... Keep trying.. If you can put your camera in manual and try different settings.. No flash and also try different perspectives.. Get down on the ground... Get your hands dirty Keep us updated on your progress

| | | Get down and dirty. Don't be afraid to kneel, to press your cheek into a floor to get nice and low on a shot. Try to find something interesting to anchor your shot (a chair for example) but then move your eye away from the chair to its surroundings. Some of your photos here seem haphazard- you found an object you liked but ceased to see it in relationship to its environment/background. Try and compose your pictures using your focus (often the foreground here) AND the background. Invest in a small tripod and kill the flash. But that's already been said. #14 is beautiful and an excellent capture for just starting off with your camera. My first sets of photos from urbex adventures are shameful compared to these. Compositionally #4 has a lot of promise, but it's a little blurred and the tire is neither off center nor perfectly center. Sometimes happy accidents happen in photography, but normally you're best off making intentional decisions as to what goes where. Be aware of your surroundings. That's typically for me what shooting abandoned areas is about. If you aren't aware of what is around you, down to the minor details, you can't hope to capture it and express it in a photo. This is a promising introductory set. I hope to see more from you, please keep us updated as you go along.
Get down, girl, go 'head, get down. |

| | | Good photos from my point of view but like everyone is saying loose the flash and you should be good.
I like the pic all thought it is out of focus. Amazing how nature takes over again isnt it.

I think he was trying to get the close branches in focus and the pole out of focus, if that was his goal, he did a good job.

what he said! the more you shoot the better you'll get. I try to shoot something everyday whether it be my kids, something I see randomly in the house, the pets.... I can always find something to shoot out in the yard or out in my town. granted, I throw a lot away.(digitals are cheap) keep playing with the camera and take lots of pics. those "ahhh, thats how you do that!" moments feel good especially when you figured it out own your own but thats not to say that you shouldnt ask questions......just ask the right people. another thing I do is look through pics in books, magazines, flickr, photobucket and a few others and develop of a sense for the type of photos you wanna take and try to develop those skills. mmmm, dont know if you were after all this advice but I'm new also and this is what I'm learning....just thought I'd offer (plus I'm bored) you wanna get good....shoot. I think you're off to good start.

| | | Some of the shots, like the tire swing are cropped to tight. A bit more space below the tire would have been nicer. Also dont just stand bolt upright for every shot. Explore all the different angles possible, you might find that what would be a dull shot could be an attention getter.

| | | actually the UER.COM thing was already there...and i just figured i'd include it for that reason..and yes i use a point and shoot..the first couple were with a cybershot and the rest with an olympus (manual everything except focus, which i wish i had) i just wish i had the money for a nice camera and the latest of all these pictures was taken about 2 months ago when i first got the camera..also got a tripod and have been learning the features of my camera, just havent gotten a chance to take any pictures lately
thanks for the help -Zach [last edit 6/2/2007 7:55 PM by zachhhhh - edited 1 times]

I have a good camera and I'm a pretty good photographer if I do say so myself. All I need is a light, small tripod and I'm is business. And yes that camera of your's is crapy, but at least it works most of the time. Now as for the pics. I find that although the subject may be okay you should work on the angle you take the photo at, make it look unique. Anyone can photograph a fridge front on, but if you take the photo at a certain angle and in the proper light you might get something that looks good.
