| | | name history < on 11/24/2003 2:43 PM >
| | | i've added a feature to the "view profile" page that displays the names someone has used, starting now. there have been far too many people changing their names lately and it makes it very hard to keep track of who is who. examples: max action, twin turbo, etc. so now the names show up.

| | | Cool, I was going to suggest something like that. Does it list the date/time they changed names or just their previous name? It might be intersting to have a feature that tells us when some new guy shows up from the same IP as a really annoying troll, but that's probably already a mod feature and not that useful to the general board members.

Not to mention you'd have to do it by IP block since most everyone at home is DHCP'd. Although, I have been known to ban someone's entire /16 when they decided to spam my site's forums from several different IPs... ;)

| | | Thanks Av, I was confused as hell about Max's new screen name as to who it was, and when I clicked the personal info, it all made sense - Max is a little boy.

DHCP: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A server instructs the client computer on configuration, including IP address. So an individual computer's IP addy canchange, depending on how the system is set up. A /16 is a block of IP addresses, holding 65536 addresses. It's worth about $100k to the right people. An ISP might own only one /16, so blocking an entire /16 can block all users of an ISP.
