| | | | Ghost Towns of Kansas by Daniel Fitzgerald < on 11/5/2006 4:12 AM >
| | | I just bought Ghost Towns of Kansas by Daniel Fitzgerald. There are over 100 locations listed in the book and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with exploring these areas. If so, was there anything good? Any pictures to share? I hope to get out this spring and do some little day trips to some of the locations, but I don't know where to start. I've seen this book mentioned on many different exploration sites and it seems to be well respected along with its sequel. Just wanted to test the waters out here.

I have tried to find some, but I normally just find something else just as cool on the way and run out of time.

| | | Dan is good people, he is still available for comment and he loves to get decent prints of abandonments. He wrote Ghost Towns 1 and 2 almost 20 years ago. MANY of the towns are now gone! The methods he uses to find them are still perfectly valid for digging up gems (no pun intended) all over the midwest. Highly reccomended. Also pick up "Ghosts in the Wilderness."

| | | Will a Mod please move this to the Midwest or KS? Not sure why this is in the South. . . .

I'm a moderator for the south since I live in Texas (YEAH!!!) but Kansas is in the south's section. I guess that's just the way it was on the day they were handing out states.

| | | GToKS was written a LONG time ago (20+ years). Sadly, many of these towns are long gone. You can use Fitzgeralds methodology to find all the towns you could ever desire across the plains. Anyone who lives on the plains knows where the good stuff is - you just have to have the discipline to get out and shoot! Ghost towns are not like East Coast hospitals and big set-piece explorations. I no longer live in KS but I do not think you want to start blowing up small towns on this forum. . . . just a thought.

Yes, yes -- I know! I hate that we're in the "south." That's the way it was on the map, so I went with it. It'd be nice to be moved to the plains...
