| | | I know you guys are joking... But I train very seriously in Parkour and along with that the Methode Naturelle. I train 2-3 times a week barefoot runing on concrete, walking through rivers, doing trails, even now Parkour vaults and such with ease. I've spent days at a time in downtown Toronto with no shoes on at all (cept when I have to put them on to get food or the such because some people flip out).. and it's not that bad. Im still training them, but Im going to start doing drains barefooted soon which isnt hard persay, but moreso mental. Granted I would never ever go into anyplace like say... Brickwords (Toronto example), barefooted even with trained feet but places like sewers, underground traintracks and tunnels etc.. all feasible. There are people out there who would though and are definetly trained for a place like Brickworks which is horrible filthy and unsafe for normal feet. Heres a video of the guy who I train under... his old 'master' .. and just like I do, he doesnt call what he does "urban exploration" .. theres no real name given. It's just training, training for all circumstances and these places are great to make the body stronger mentally. Always shirtless, always shoeless, we train to become 'warriors' in a sense, to be able to overcome any situation or obstacle in our way. Anyways heres the video which shows him barefoot in the underground tunnel system under Paris and some other places around the city. http://perso.orang.../HorsHumainWeb.mov [last edit 6/29/2006 9:12 AM by MonkeyLunk - edited 1 times]

That's pretty interesting. If there was something around here like that I might get involved.
I had to stop that half way through. The cinematography is absolutely horrible and him standing around banging on stuff while howling isn't interesting.

| | | Some of you guys, with your new-fangled "combat boots" and "sneakers" bullocks are missing the whole point of going barefoot! Its so you can actually "feel" and "live" the building you are entering! You can feel the asbestos dust under your feet, you can feel the dead animals guts squish between your toes, its freakin fantastic! And to add more to your day you get to spend time afterwards removing glass, nails, screws, metal chips and sometimes needles. (Just be sure to put them in a bag, rinse the blood off them, and return them to the building on your next trip, don't take anything!) Say you're climbing a ladder with those wierd "boots" on (as you call them) and the ladder step brakes. With those wierd "boots" your feet don't get the full effect with metal shards and the scrapeing, and actually being one with the ladder for a few moments. To each thier own I suppose. I've enclosed a photo of my feet so you can all see what the result of toughening and firming your feet will do from constant barefooting in the UrBex environment.

| | | Is this some sort of a joke topic? Really. Barefoot is good for sitting around in the house all day in front of the TiVo or watergun fights in the back yard. Shoes = happy, protected feet
Keep it fuzzy. |

| | | Okay let's bring reality back to it: I am a die-hard barefooter. I've gone barefoot all around the world from the mean streets of NYC to the picturesque backwoods towns of England, even in LA and the Boneville Salt Flats in Utah. However many environments are not conducive to going barefoot - especially if you are not trained to go barefoot. Any place where you will encounter broken glass, dirty needles, snow, ice, or other threats you need to be very careful. I have never been to an urbex building that I would consider safe enough to go barefoot, with the exception of old ruins or something in the middle of the woods. For those of you who still are interested in going barefoot, may I present to you the "dirty sole society" www.barefooters.org/

| | | Are you insane? It only takes one hypodermic to transmit lots of wonderful ailments. In fact, there have been times where I wonder if my shoes are thick enough to protect against any sharp objects I may encounter.

| | | Shoes for me. However, I keep a pair of work boots handy so if I go into a building or an area that's overgrown (great for hiding nasty items like nails in boards etc), I can change into them. I find work boots are a lot more comfortable than stitches.
