| | The Nova Scotia Meet Up Thread.. < on 5/9/2006 4:30 PM >
| | | Thats it i couldn't stand it anylonger, i had to make this thread. ( i made it Publically viewable because there alot of non-full members) I say we should have a Halifax meet up, there seems to be more & more people on the forum from this way and i think if we all met up we could problemy find some very interesting locations. whos knows what else?... Just thought i could get the ball rolling or something, tell me what you guys(gals)think.

| | | Great idea. If I'm avail I'll definitely go. What other meets (Montreal, Glasgow, etc.) do is meet in a restaurant or other public place (this enables to screen for unprepared newbies, cops and undercover journalists) and then head to a location. *=)

| | | Cafes are always a great place to have meetings like this, depending on the size. Back when I was half-organizing the Halifax 2600 meetings, we had them at second-cup on Spring Garden Road. Public place, lots of seating, food, coffee, comfortable, the owners really don't care so long as everyone respects the place, and the other patrons. Like I said, depending on the size of the group it may be workable, we had, at one time 8 or 9 people and it was alright. I would definately like to see this happen though.

| | | I caught wind of this site by doing some research into historic Halifax. I've lived downtown for years and skulked a lot of places. I just recently moved to East Petpeswick but work downtown. I am not a cop!

| | | Any further info on this guys? It seems a lot of people are busy this month, I know I am especially, I could try and duck out of my activities for next weekend, I have exams/grad/prom coming up in the next few weeks, and then summer. Presumably this would be done on a weekend, the 2600 meetings used to be held on Friday nights at Second Cup, I could just hop a bus down after school.

| | | Ok, This is what i decided we should Do. Because alot of us on here don't knows who who , what your skill is etc. Were going to a very interesting Location with a low-getting caught rate. Of course we won't meet at this location, were going to meet at the tim hortons on sackville drive thats next to staples. http://maps.google...,0.003659&t=k&om=1 You can get here by driving or taking the bus to sackville. After everybody is there after a certain time we will take a bus close to our location. Now for us to decide: First: we can ether go a weeknight (less active of other people) Or a Saturday.. (more people around, paintballers) I personally like weeknights better.(but majority wins) 2nd: The date, Ill say July 5th of the top of my head. If we go a week night we would have to meet for 5:45 or 7 and would have to leave the location at 10:50 at the latest So now its up to you guys to see what you think and want. Note: Full members can find out more information, on the Level 3 thread

| | | Not bad, I guess the only problem is that we are fairly scattered, you're in Beaverbank/Sackville, I am almost in Cole Harbour, some people are downtown, or in Dartmouth. I would be willing to try and set time aside to get there, but downtown, as far as transit time, and ease of getting there goes, works best. But like you said, we'll wait to see what others have to say.

| | | Well i picked sackville (suggested by maze), Because its only one bus ride to the location from there, 2nd any of the places that are more "downtown" are more risk. and like i said i think the first one should be a assessment more then anything. Thats why i picked sackville.

| | | Well 2 things for me : 1)can't do weeknights 2)I find it HIGHLY dangerous to pinpoint the location in a general thread like this. Therefore, I STRONGLY suggest we change the location of this meet, for security reason. Here's how it usually works : meet in a public place (restaurant? Park?), then if all the people present seems normal (no cops/no journalists/no weirdos), then the target location is revealed to all. My 2 cents. That's pretty much pinpointing location for me. Cops have maps... And yes, trust me, there's cops here. Tons.

He just basically means that we shouldn't say online "let's meet here". He says lets set out a loose date like everyone meet at point A at such and such a time (these times and locales pm'ed to prominent forum members). Once everyone goes to this spot, and we see that everyone is legit, we can go to a cafe, or wherever. In my experience it shouldn't matter, look at 2600 meetings, those are held ONLY in public places once a month, all over the world. One of the few times cops really got involved it was publicized the hell out of, it's just public assembly, we are allowed to meet and discuss whatever we wish.
