| | | | Hi everybody. This is my first topic, and I have a question or four. < on 5/24/2006 12:53 AM >
| | | Yeah. I'm new here. Hi all. I wanna quick give ya a little bio so you'll better understand some of my questions. I'm 14, and I live in a small town in Ohio. (I mapped my coordinates in case you actually care.) I got linked to this site in a topic I created on another site about an old shooting range I found, and it seemed like I would fit in here. Just want to say that I'll do my best to contribute as much as I can, and now, for my couple questions: 1. In your opininon, what's the best time to do a UE outing? Day or Night? 2. How are you supposed to get a manhole cover up? 3. Is it even worthwile to get a manhole cover up? 4. Would you consider this to be a good equipment list? I. Mini Mag-Lite II. Crowbar (NOT for breaking windows or anything illegal) III. Camera IV. My special little soda can padlock opener ( http://www.i-hacke...ntent/view/189/48/ ) V. My torque wrench and pickset VI. Rope VII. My makeshift grappling hook

day or night, they are both fun. I like the day time just because it takes better pictures, but night is better for more secure places so you can see headlights/other flashlights.. manhole cover..just stick your fingers in through the holes, and pull..this has been my solution for them. What can work is some sort of metal rod and stick it in the hole and lean back on it to arch it up... Manhole covers lead to sewer drains which lead to draining--so yes go. ...now what I carry for spontaneous UE: in my truck/purse there is: 2 towels in case of getting wet A 3d maglite in purple my Casio Ex-Z55 (which is always in my purse...) Now what I bring when I plan to go: The above Nikon D50 Tripod (sometimes) Good fence climbing shoes..so they have to be thinner, not fat and bulky. and my phone in case I get stuck/lost because who knows when you can't get out. I've never had to carry a lockpick, never found a need to because even with the locks, there is always another way in, be it a 20 foot fence, or a 2nd story window..that and if I'm caught with that I'd hate to see what they'd do to me..since I'm already in enough trouble.

I find this gear essential also..haha But I would stay away from the lock picking, crow bar, etc stuff. Just leads to more charges that you probly dont want. Or you could just drive a bulldozer to the location, and if there is anything in the way use that to clear a path..thus eliminating the need for crowbar and lockpicking.

| | | Dude, you only need about 4 things out of that list! The rest is dead weight that you only see used in TV shows and video games. Trust me, drop the grappling hook, pickset, and probably the crowbar. Crowbar is possible for draining but it can get you knee deep in crap. Also, get familiarized with the button on your left. Daytime is good for abandonments. Night is good for stealth infils.

| | | Ignore the individuals who seem to like to make fun of anyone. Like F2F2 stated most of the information you are looking for under the search button. Your list is pretty good for just about anything you will encounter, as a beginner. Many here have there own opinion of things. I. Mini Mag-Lite - You might want to go with a more drop resistant design like a LED, or carry the LED as a backup. Although Mag-lites can be used as a baseball bat, the bulbs are not so resistant. Much like the Surefire G2 flashlights arent supposed be beaten up, even though Surefire has a lifetime warranty. There are several links to modifying a Mag-lite, and on the discussion. II. Crowbar - As many will tell you like flamethrower boy, this can get you in a lot of trouble even with the best intensions. Most of the tunnel guys do carry them, or something similar to pop manholes etc. III. Camera IV. My special little soda can padlock opener - I havent played with them but there are lots of good links and comments. You should post about how well they have worked for you/havent. V. My torque wrench and pickset - similar to the crowbar these can get you in big trouble. Several disscusions on that are on here. Many people use them though. VI. Rope - what kind? Many people buy rope not knowing they dont have good rope for what they are trying to do. VII. My makeshift grappling hook - Jester on here has made a fw good ones. I personally havent needed one, but many have used them to great effect. Many people will debate what you need. Some go ultra light, some go loaded for bear. I have done both, and I must admit after doing alot of gear loadouts for combat, I carry as light as I can. Weight is the mother of trouble, and being slow and clumsy is the father of ending up in trouble. Welcome and ignore the winey cock snipers around that are Elite, and think they are better then all others.

| | | Well said Mark. I. To add my 2 cents. I have used mag, surefire, pelican, streamlight, etc. the list goes on. Get whatever you can afford, also i find that the mini mag is the most useful out of all the mag lights (you dont need those huge baseball bats, as so eloquently put by someone else). And you all forgot spare batteries and bulbs. II. Besides draining I have only maybe needed a crowbar once or twice at the most. And that was returning with one after discovering I needed one, so drop the crowbar you don't really need it. III. Always carry a camera. Even if its some POS, you will kick yourself later for not taking pictures. V. Insert something similar to crowbar comment here. VI. If your going to use rope, make sure you invest money into proper climbing rope. Much like Mark, I know what it is like to carry a lot of pointless gear for a long time. My advice is plan ahead and take the stuff you are going to need and avoid carrying excess crap

| | | Oh hey, I forgot to mention. Bring binoculars. Not only are they useful to look for guards and cops (doesn't take much to see the flashing lights but when they get out of the car...), but you can also use it as an excuse! "What are you doing?!" "Bird watching." Gets em every time...

| | | Good idea, but carry a bird book, just a cheap golden guide would work. Its small, fits in your pocket, durable, and if by chance you get a park naturalist trying to stop crime (aka me on the job) or a cop who is an amateur birder who quizzes you on birds you have something to back you up.

| | | Ok. Thanks for all of the advice. I don't know why I carry my pickset, it's more a security blanket than something I'll actually use. I think I'll leave that and the crowbar at home unless I know I'll be needing them. My grappling hook has almost always come in handy, it's like the team's lucky charm, and the launcher I built for it makes it twice as useful and cool. In my area there's a hell of a lot of stuff to climb, so I think I'll keep that. The minimag is obviously approved by everyone, so I'll keep it, and my digital camera goes evertwhere with me anyways. Thanks a lot for all the input, thanks for the nice (if not somewhat sarcastic) welcome wagon, and I hope to continue contributions to the forums. Peace!

| | | Personally, I bring: 1.) Minolta 2.) Film 3.) Water Bottle(Or 2 or 3 or 4) 4.) Flashlight/Lantern Combo 5.) An Israeli Medic Bag to keep it all in. I also like to go in light shoes for running, but not so light they aren't protective against glass. I also always go in black clothes at night, and drop most of the equipment during the day to avoid looking conspicuous. I would also advise NEVER GOING ALONE. that's my two cents, have fun!

| | | Lockpicks can be very handy if you ever run into locked doors or padlocks, but it can be very risky so don't bring them unless you are absolutely sure that you won't get caught or your don't care about going to jail. If I ever bring my lockpicks I always have someone offsite with a police scanner scanning the local frequencies. So if im spotted by the police I get an advaced warning to either get out of there of ditch the picks.

| | | Stop ragging on the crowbars guys. They're pretty useful for manholes; I sometimes carry a small blue one with me in my bag. Glad to see another youngster here. You should read Predator's approach.doc at infiltration.com (though the risk of bacterial infection from draining aren't all that grave). If you want to get into draining I'd also reccomend you join the Drainer's private board here. It's generally more on-topic than the main boards.

| | | Has anyone had any luck wih these. I've heard a range from they don't work at all to they work on 90% of the padlocks used today. I'm guessing that they work on the cheaper padlocks but not higher quality ones. Can someone enlighten us please? How about you Grit1 do you know anything about these things? Very good point. His parents will be held responsible for thier child's damage too. It's bad form, and wrong to encourages juveniles to commit crime of any sort. UER should not be a educational website for up and coming criminals.
