| | Winnipeg Train Yard < on 4/13/2006 2:32 AM >
| | | Im just wondering if any of the Winnipeg Ue-ers have explored the Old Train Yard that is crossed by the Arlington St. bridge. It has, since I was very young had the dream of exploring the train yard and its surrounding abandoned and still active factories.

| | | Yeah, whatever "coach" (notice the sarcasm). You say we need to get out more, but it's kinda hard without transportation other than public transit. I dunno, maybe I'm just being lazy.

Yeah.. You are being lazy... On Saturday, April 8, 2006, I had just left the college from a course I'm attending, and at the first intersection me and some guy driving beside me (had a SOLID GREEN light) and some chick made an unsafe left turn in front of both of us.. The guy beside me missed her by merely 3 feet but I smoked her and my car can very well be totaled now, but do You think that stoped me?? Nope! I went out on the bus (ohhh look at me I'm such a loser... cause I take the loser cruiser) got off on Higgins and Main and walked around for two hours scouting for new buildings. Tried to get into the Yellow Warehouse but couldn't but I'm going again this week. And sooner or later I'm going on a couple of solo missions over to this red building right by the Museum of Man and Nature (George, I think You know which one I'm talking about), and to a few warehouses around Notre Dame @ Erin. And I've just talked to my "bros" and they said they might be able to hook me up with a tour of the "Civic Savior" cause I'll just say I want to have it for history purposes for my other site. Honestly man, there's tons of places out there.. You just gotta go and explore them. I know it would be nice for all the UE places in Winnipeg to be like how Canada Packers or International Fiberboard, or Ogilvie Flour Mills were but even a small abandoned restaurant would be good for a first solo UE mission (and there a ton of abandoned restaurants). I know how it is to not have a car.. Fuck man, I drive the piss out of my car whenever I have one. I like driving everywhere, but at the same time, life doesn't just come to a crashing hault when I don't have a car. I still have school, work, meet up with friends, etc. Life goes on. P.S. I started going everywhere by bus and used the bus for the first 17 years of my life.. and not even the first 17. I got my license at 17.. wasn't lucky enough to get my first car until I was 20! I'm not being an asshole, I'm just saying to try and go and find something on Your own and surprize us. I have about 10 places I've gone to either solo, or with another urban explorer and I've got over 100 pics combined from all of them and there are places that will surprize ppl because some of them might have not been discovered by anybody! That's the secret to UE.. yeah sure everybody knows all the big and famous places, but it's the small places and solo missions that prove You! I dunno, maybe that's just me...

Hey, that's no way to talk to your coach ;) I understand how difficult it is. I had to use public transit for exploring a couple of times and it sucks, particularly when its -40 and you came out of a drain and didn't bring any spare clothes.

| | | And it's also sometimes difficult to explain to your parents where you're going and where you just came from and why you're covered in someone else's crap and things to that effect.
"Hello, my name is Tom. I work for Sorat, a parent company of Delouge. We're doing a general recall for refrigerators 23456B. Have you had any problems?" "No... no problems." "So your fridge is running?" "Yes." "Then you better go catch it!" -Kelsey and Drran |

| | | Yeah, I guess it isn't much of a problem, I just came back from the train yards and told my parents, they didn't care.

| | | Check down Portage Ave downtown, Main Street south of the CPR tracks, and even the CPR tracks near McPhillips (think stacks). If you get the chance, the Union Stock Yards are quite easy to get into.

| | | If you were really interested in exploring the CP Weston train yard and shops, Call the CP public relations office and request a facility tour on a day when the sun is out and the weather is nice. They will give you a hard hat, make you sign a waiver and take you on a guided tour.
