| | | The best maps are county-based GIS maps. Google "[county name] [your state/prov] GIS maps" and you'll find a goldmine. These maps are super-accurate, often use yearly-updated high-high-res photos, and normally hold parcel info (tax info, owner contact info, area, flood/earthquake stats, year built, etc). If you can't find it for your county then: 1) Look for 'Parcel Maps'; 2) North Dakota is ahead of your tech. Get with the times. [last edit 2/17/2006 11:59 PM by Glass - edited 1 times]

| | | Is there a way to plot points and have it just go straight line between them and not follow roads? I want to plot distance of a path but not sure if you can with GE..

| | | In the UK we have got something called multi map, you might have it in the US or Canada. You search the place you want to go to and it lets you view an areal photo, the quillity is pretty crappy though.

| | | Google Earth is quite a reliable tool for UE types as long as it's used properly. In effect, it's a road map with the ability to display pictures. Road maps are also out of date as soon as they go to print, but they are still incredibly valuable. This completely interactive, global map complete with photos is just all the more helpful. It's also great for a group to use because points of interest can be saved and shared with other program users. My group and I use it to either find potential new sites or get some kind of idea on known ons before we head out. As with all maps, however, take the info with a grain of salt.
