Respirator Filter

Hmmm, I have an Israeli issue respirator, but my cartridges are German. They came in the same pack, along with single-use plastic bio-hazard suits. I'm having a hard time figuring out the rating of my cartridge, I have no idea how effective it is!

The only things printed on it are "Zivilshutzfilter 68" "C" and "70/5146"

Anybody have any ideas?

The mask and cartridge are pictured here;

Don't use them, they are no good and probably expired. Buy a new one instead.

yeah, if your going to bother using a respirator, use a new one that you know will work. Those military surplus ones are usually defective anyway =\

I didn`t get it from a Surplus store, I got it from an uncle of mine that owned a defense company named Vanguard Response. Came with a lot more than the respirator, I get some nifty toys from him from time to time.

Best not to risk it. Look for replacement p-100 filters that might fit the mask, or ask your uncle what they're rated at.

I have a russian military issue gas mask and cartridges, but it's kind of old, and I'd like something newer that I can be confident works, anybody have any suggestions as to where I could get one (In Canada)?

The 68 stands for the type (and first issue) of the filter, the 70 for the year the filter is produced. This thing is over 30 years old and definitely expired, even if stored properly.

It all depends on what you want... will you be wanting something that will protect you from NBC? (Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical) E.g. Tear Gas(CN or CS). Or do you wan't a mask that will protect you from mold, mildew, asbestos, and other things that are found in sewers and abandoned homes.

Don't pick a mask based on how cool it looks, pick a mask based on what you need.

If you look up www.northsafety.com and click on europe, then raspatory protection, and go to the filtering gas masks, and finally Cartridges and canisters, you will find the single aluminium carts will fit military (NATO standard EN-148-1) gas masks.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!
