I'd say. I'd be worried about loosing any of that or getting mugged. Must be nice to be rich. Or have a rich daddy. I'd love the camera though, you can send it to me and I'll take care of it for you. However the ...

I dont take the camera to the South Bronx or places like that. I have a D70 that is much smaller and lighter, that goes to the risky or run in, run out places. The cash is for any problem that might come up.... Hick tow truck driver that only takes cash Cheep hotel that only takes cash Bribe money for the security guards ($50 got us off once)

| | | I guess that we haven't been doing this too long, but my friends and I seem to have the equipment in check. We almost always carry the following items with: 2 Flashlights Extra Batteries Tape recorder Cell Phone 50m Rope 2 Repelling Harnesses Multiple Carabineers and Figure 8's Adjustable Crescent Wrench Robo-grips First Aid Kit Water Face masks gloves Canon Digital Rebel 4 Gigs of Memory paper Binoculars Compass A Mirror All in 3 backpacks on 3 people... We've kinda put together a team. I, myself, am usually the entry man. I find a way in and the best way to get everyone else in. My friend David is our Photographer. Strat us our lookout and sometimes our recon man. Sometimes we take another person with us... or we switch out. There's usually 3 of us, sometimes only 2.

Is that all, I'd suggest at least $5000 in small bills. I mean, you can't really be much of an explorer if you don't have at least that much exploring money on you...

| | | This is what I take with me on a trip: - camera (canon EOS300) (+ extra batt) - spare camera (praktica bx20 '82 model) - lots of film (agfa apx 400 / tmax 1600 or 3200) - flashlight (+ extra batt) - gloves (rubber / latex) - combat boots - cell phone (+ extra batt) All that material fits in a back pack. I usually wear old clothes. If the place wasn't all that dirty I usually wash them several times and store them in a plastic bag (separated). If I was visiting some old abandoned lab / dirty factory I usually throw those clothes away. Though reading upon previous posts, I might look into buying a respirator. While asbestos has been banned for a long time here, I can imagine it's still in one of those old hospitals, castles, military facilities, ... On being caught.. like someone said, I can imagine dressing up like someone of the military or someone who's conducting scientific research (or whatever other story that you can make up / think of when you get caught). I've never tried it before, whenever I ran into a security agent I always told them what I was doing there, why I was doing it. Most of the times they were even pleased I was documenting history for a part. Some even gave me a private tour around great corridors, places I hadn't discovered on my own (secret passage ways etc). Only one time I was forced to hand over my film (that's why I have the old praktica, I put the EOS away after a shot and walk around with the praktica (it holds and empty film) so whenever someone "arrests" me and asks me to hand over the film, I just give them the blank film from the praktica). I haven't done this UE thing for that long (nor do I have created a website yet to post my photographs), so I guess I'm a bit inexperienced though I'm sure I'll be able to learn some stuff through this board and improve my UE skills as it's one of those fields on photography I really like and enjoy doing.

The mirror is for looking around corners, sometimes to reflect light, it can be used as a distraction for dumb security guards, or as a mirror to see if there's something in my eye.

If you honestly think you're taking a mirror around to distract guards by shining it in his eyes, then you need to take a step back from the video game console and a step in the direction of reality...

Nah, I use it 1) to look around corners 2) to get things out of my eyes because I'm usually to stupid to take goggles 3) sometimes to reflect light but... I figured if Dukes was going to be a smart aleck, then I would as well.

depends on where you are going and what not. if u are doing places that may have loose asbestos or lots of pigeon shit a p100 respirator is a must.
