That's what I would have thought, too. This came straight from the mouth of a police officer in my town though. Lots of "normal" items can cause problems when you have them in your car. As another example, if you have a baseball bat with you in the front seat of your car, it is considered a weapon. If you want to transport it, it is supposed to be stored and kept in your trunk.

| | | Interesting what people carry. A lot of what I think of as "UE gear" I also think of as common sense things to have in my car. Flashlight or 2 - yup Basic hand tools (screwdrivers, wrenches, sockets) - yup Multitool of some kind (Gerber/Leatherman) - yup Extra flannel/jacket - yup Shovel - yup Basic first aid kit - yup Paper/writing utensils - yup Partial set of late 1800's encyclopedias - yup OK, so the old books need to go in the house, but rest of it just lives in the car. I've tended to explore lightly, walk softly, and avoid trouble I can't get out of. I see some of the things other people carry and feel mildly jealous - but then I remember I don't like lugging stuff around.

| | | I always carry this little flashlight.
It's small enough to fit in a jacket pocket, and very bright. Normally I favor maglites, but this does the job quite well for being a smaller flashlight.
