| | | perhaps the ultimate UE hat < on 5/17/2005 8:06 PM >
| | | i got one of these a while back...liked it so much i bought a second as a loaner to my not-as-well-equipped friends, and bought one for my brother, grandpa, and father-in-law. has 2 LEDs in the brim. lightweight, unobtrusive, and doesn't make you look like a deranged coal miner. throws a hell of a beam. http://www.sears.c...OL&pid=03493344000 15 bucks at the local sears. lifetime warranty. kicks much ass. haven't seen anyone post this, so i thought i'd share. on a side note, the tutorials have been an excellent resource. hope this is a slightly helpful addition. so much has already been posted, it's somewhat hard not to cover old territory. keep up the good work

| | | Hey, nice lookin' hat. Too bad I don't wear hats. :\ The LEDs seem very useful (and cool).

| | | That's pretty sweet, I've been thinking about getting a new hat lately anyway. What's the battery life like? How's the throw on the LEDs?

| | | That's pretty cool... but when I'm exploring, I wear my hat backwards (better vision, and it keeps spiders, etc from falling down the back of my neck) so those LEDs would be pointing the wrong direction.

You'd rather they hit your face? <talks><*crunch*><swallows><shudders>
Also, I think the normal headlamps are better, easier to take off and put on, no restricting your view like a cap, etc.. [last edit 5/18/2005 12:16 AM by Beryl - edited 1 times]

lights are comparable with two high intensity LEDs running together..comparable to a AAA mag. i don't know how long continuous run life of the batteries would be...i use it sparingly, and it lasts for months. i was going to post a pic of one in use, but i'm so computer unfriendly i can't get it to work. i can send you some pics when i get them from the other computer.

| | | It seems better just to make your one yourself... Cheaper too. As for directionality if you look at the hat you can see it has that.

they are quite well aimed. Armed_Geoduck used them with me on the last two outings and loves em. as for making it yourself...they are only 15 bucks. by the time you buy the hat, the LEDs, the battery holder/switch, and take the time to put it together, you wind up with not necessarily the best time investment. go exploring instead!

It is Craftsman... and Canadian Tire has Mastercraft.
