| | | I wanted to get my tongue pierced for a million years. Well, from age 12 to 15 - when I was finally old enough to get it done. By that time I was just starting high school, where "tongue piercing" was spelled S-L-U-T. That turned me off from it rather quickly. My boyfriend's little sister - who just recently turned 15 - wants to get her tongue pierced, and I feel like such a mom. I just.... want to shake her. But I'm not quite sure why. I don't make much sense. On the other side of all that is her big brother, with a grand total of 45 needles to have poked his skin - including 3 in the tongue. I guess I'm not really sure where im going with this.. But seriously I don't think it's a decision many kids are capable of making in a mature mindset. However, they do, and I think the best anyone can do is make the risks, pros, and cons available before piercing, and afterwards if they regret it, it's "I told you so!" learn by doing. Be a stupid kid. whatever. not my business.

| | | not exactly a vote, but... Piercing (like abortions) should be legal so they are less likely to be done by 'hacks'. Piercing should have an age limit so the piercees can handle the consequences (healing, side effects, whatever). -Tongues are typically easy to heal...you never get crusties, it's quite vascular, stay away from other people's 'germies' for a month and yer kewl. -I guess some places have preconceived ideas about the 'meaning' of the pierce...that's where my idea of 'side effects' comes from. Basically I can see the pros and cons of either side. If I was to vote, I'd say have an age limit, but before 18...or that whole guardian's permission thing is fine with me. ...are there really parents who think it's ok for their 10 year old to get their tongue pierced?

| | | My daughter, who's fifteen, has many friends with tattoos and piercings. Having tongue, naval piercings and tattoos myself for many years,I allowed her to get her naval done, which she got bored of and removed. What I would never allow her to do,under the age of 18,is get a tattoo or a piercing on her face. If she wants to permanently scar herself, she can make her own choice to do so,at the legal age. A tongue piercing...I've held her off until she's sixteen because I don't think she'd take care of it properly. So if they put the age up to 18,I'd be happy!
