| | | Ever so often a location leaves a sour taste in your mouth, something just doesn't feel right or sit well with you, or just feels 'bad', and this certainly was one of those locations. It's one of only a handful that has given me a serious case of the 'got to get out of here's but I toughed it out and shot what I wanted to shoot in it much to my friend's distress as he was feeling it even worse than me. Immediately after stepping onto the property through the large barn at the back my friend didn't like it. There was a large excavator in fairly good condition sat in there along with various other farm type implements and even after pointing out to him that the actual entrance into the barn was as good as blocked so nothing could get in or out he still didn't like it. I was OK though so pushed on. Navigating our way through the back yard was an adventure as it was full of little outbuildings, other vehicles buried in the undergrowth and stuff placed to block our way to the house. After finding a different way in than I'd been told about I forced my way past the blocked basement stairs and got into the house proper. That's when I started to feel unnerved. To the left of me was the door into the kitchen and in there, amongst the piles of stuff the former resident had hoarded all over the house was a single electric lamp switched on illuminating the room. Opposite the lamp was a fridge and a freezer, and to make matters worse the freezer was plugged in, powered on and full of food. To complete the 'nope, through the doorway into the attached utility room was a hand written note penned on a cupboard opposite the back door which stated that the property was filled with 'traps' with a danger of death. Thoroughly unnerved we decided to not spent long in there at all, and thankfully I managed to shoot the only part I really wanted to shoot right at the end before we exited the house. It's one of very few places I would be very happy to not go back to, I have a love/hate relationship with abandoned houses and being here was everything I hate about them rolled into one place. However the stupid part of me wants to go back and have a better look around the outbuildings! 1
