| | | My first exploration was at a pretty famous abandoned hospital in Chicago. It wasn't too exciting of a building. It's one of those locations that comes up if you just google 'abandonded chicago'. Anywyay, the first time I went there I didnt go into the building. I walked behind the fence onto the property and started looking for a way inside. There was graffiti and rubble everywhere (one of the buildings was half demolished). Suddenly, something falls just a few feet in front of me. I didn't look at what it was, or up at the building it came from because of how scared and inexperienced I was with abandoned places. I ran out of there and ran half a mile back to my car. I decided to not let something like that prevent me from going back. I went back with a small group of friends, i think it was 3 people with me. We drove around the building and saw a security car parked right where i had been before. We needed a different way in. Then, we drove down a small road behind the building which dead ends, but we saw a small opening in the fence. So we parked our car, and walked back to the open fence. We ran inside, and luckily found a door on the side of the building we were on. We climbed up the 11(?) flights of stairs and got one of the most amazing and notorious views of an abandoned rooftop pool. After that, I started exploring a bunch of random buildings around my area and got a bit more of experience. Also if you made it this far, thanks for reading my boring story lol

| | | Hard to pinpoint one specific first location, so I'll list two that kinda set me on the road of getting serious(-ish) 1. In High School, a few friends of mine and I found an old school for special-needs kids and ran around the inside. We were reckless, irresponsible, and when we came back after dark with the intent of re-enacting a mix of Resident Evil and the Avengers, we were accosted by cops who thought we were throwing a party. (We had tried to set that up on Facebook, but nothing materialized. Interestingly, the day we went was the same day we had set for the party on Facebook, so we all figured that Facebook had alerted the cops). I was hooked *immediately* because I thought it was absurd that four squad cars of cops would pull their guns on a group of highschoolers for trying to get into a building that wasn't fenced off, had 0 (zero) 'no trespassing' signs surrounding it, and was just a hundred yards off a pretty major road. 2. A few months back, I was walking around and saw a way onto a rooftop by climbing the dilapidated facade of an old warehouse. We're talking about a building that's maaaybe 10 or 15 feet tall. I climbed on top, and wandered from rooftop to rooftop until I found my way into a construction site, where a classic theater was being demolished. I had no idea that the theater existed and no idea regarding the grand scale of the thing. And this made me realize that there had to be MUCH more hidden just out of sight.

| | | I got started early, long before I was aware that Urban Exploration was A Whole Big Thing. When I was little, I lived in a certain part of Dallas that's now entirely gentrified, with all of the old houses destroyed. Our house had been built in the 1930s, except for parts that were rebuilt in the '70s after a fire, and there were certain parts of the house I wasn't allowed in, which didn't actually stop me. The crackhouse down the street was, likewise, built in the '30s. And, likewise, caught on fire at some point. I was only 5-6 at the time, and was not supposed to leave the yard, but I ended up exploring the burnt out crackhouse a few times before we were forced to move out. There wasn't that much interesting, but that was my first experience being in Places You Should Not Be. Since learning about urban exploration as a thing a few years ago, I've explored a (mostly) abandoned mall, buildings at a (mostly) abandoned park nearby, a few construction sites, and a few other things.

| | | So, the first spot I hit was a lot less interesting than my second so I'll tell the story of the second one first. So, a friend of mine, who wants to be refered to as "Yomph", A friend called Big T, and I decided on a whim we wanted to go urban exploring. I had done it in the past as a kid but don't remember any details so they don't count, but we decided to hit a storm drain on a cliffside with a good view of the city. Now, the photo below is from springtime, but we decided to do this in the dead of winter. We are on the side of a cliffside at the top, ice is leading all the way down to the river (80 foot slide to our demise) and we just say screw it and start sliding down the ice. Big T brought a grappling hook he made in his garage with him and we hooked it to a tree to slide down. so, Big T went to the right side of the drain, Yomph went to the left, and I went straight down the middle. Yomph ended up getting stuck on the left side and went down to the river (which was frozen partially) and slid across the frozen river and climbed up the right side. Big T at this point was on the drain at this point and I was trying to figure out a way down. Now, my idiot brain decided "let's slide down this snow that looks decently trustworthy and not icy at all." Little did i know, 5 seconds from that point i was going 5 m/s ( 18 km/h ) down permafrozen dirt. so, I miss the concrete overhang because i hit a bump and Big T Swings his arm over to me, Call of Duty style, and grabs my jacket as i gripped onto the concrete. TL;DR I almost died my second time Urbexing Photo taken during summer. https://live.stati...3_f7b6e5f77b_k.jpg
