When cars and trucks were fun to drive... nice thick steel with one pieces roofs and leaded seams. Roof rain gutters and smoking windows.
My van has these, wuv them.
Crashes though tended to be much nastier pre-70's.
Any time you see a bent steering wheel it was likely a fatality.
I wuv old junkyards.

Down here, every now and then you see a truck like the GMC in image #1 in good shape towing something.

image #6

My father had one but it was a station wagon. Anyway, Car on top is a 1957 Ford something. The one underneath sure looks like a 1962 Chevrolet something...

i can see why that's the case no seat belts not a lot of crumple zones and the steering wheel is so close to you... makes you wounder though, why are the vehicles are there (most likely a junk yard but still)

The wheels weren't padded and worse no collapsible steering column.

Why are old beaters in a junkyard?
I'm coming up short.

Love me some old vehicles! Unfortunately up here, they turn to pure rust quickly.

Yeah, I was going to mention that the steering column (aka spear) pointed right at your face would kill you if the steering wheel to the rib cage didn't.

Onajhn, thanks for sharing. This is a great find. I love to imagine the stories behind some of these vehicles. Can you imagine how proud the original owners were to drive these off the lots? Showing them off to their friends or going to a drive-in movie or racing to the hospital because a baby was coming. Gets me in the feels!

It’s not a junkyard it’s private property and I have no idea why they’re stacked up there

should do some more research on the property and we might find the secrets of the vehicles! i would so take one of the cars home and restore it if i had the time and money, also permission to do so.

They are all past restoring and I suspect that is why they are there....all stacked up like they are. I like to return to things like this and photograph them during different seasons throughout the year. Ill check around and get the story one day.

Me too! I know of a large wooded area about an hour from my home with old cars and trees growing thru them but I cannot easily sneak in and I don't want to get shot. One day when I have time Im going to try to find some people in the area that know who owns it, or if anybody in the area is even looking after it. Im hoping to just ask permission to photograph.
